Survival Mode - Saving when Quitting

I've seen it happen a few time after playing Survival on Fallout 4. Whenever I get ready to quit the game for the day/night I eat/drink and sort out my inventory when at a settlement before saving at a bed.

The thing is, not sure if it's a bug... But my game seems to save by itself when I quit the game. I only realized this because I forgot to check something before saving and it was fine anyway so I quit. When I loaded game back up it was where I quit and not at my bed.

This happened to anyone else? Is it a bug?

The exit save was added as a failsafe in survival, for those times you have to leave in a hurry. But sadly it is flawed. It only happens occasionally, and as so it cant be trusted.

So be sure to save in a bed of some kind before you quit the game, on survival

Exit saves are for those "emergencies" when you need to quit.

When you restart from an exit save it erases itself and that last sleep will be your last hard save you restart from if you die.

You are probably exiting back to the main menu first. Sadly, that does have a bug. If you exit straight to the desktop then it works.

Or maybe he opens the pip-boy or other menu so it can't save.

I have had saves, with the pip-boy open. When I continue the game starts with the pip boy screen. Then I made sure to not do that again. just in case.

If you try to exit to menu or exit to desktop with the workshop open it will not save.

Well, if I recall there is a message saying the game will not save, if that happens.

Yeah the workshop and I think a few other things will trigger the "exit save not available" message.

Just simply stop what you are doing and try again.

Exit save is also unavailable when you have the Pip Boy open iirc?

After exiting the game those using PCs can copy the exitsaves and autosaves to a different direectory. In case of problems they can be used by copying them back to the original directory.
