Over limit? My mods are broken
Hello my mods have been acting up recently, when ever I launch the game and load into my save it acts like I installed the mod for the first time which I haven't. For example Mods that welcome you, like AAF. I don't know why this is happening. AAF also is all of a sudden starting to have a startup error. Error 037 it said it depended on armorkeywords.esm or something like that, when I have it installed.
EDIT I have 289 mods I now think this is happening proabably because I hit the mod limit.

game is hard coded to 255 limit of mods.
Well, not exaclty a hard code limit but more of a game engine limit

That's why you need to merge some patch mods, and make a Bashed Patch to combine more.

Yeah I looked it up and found it in a skyrim post. I will try to get less than 255 mods, plus I think it is about to start cleaning out my mods, only to download new mods and to hit the limit again.
Thanks

I hope you're using at least Vortex mod manager & LOOT. NMM is outdated and Vortex is its replacement. NMM was mainly a 32bit game mod manager with an update for 64bit games though not reliable.
Mod Organizer 2 is even better for mod management, but it has more of a learning curve. It not only allows for manual sorting of your plugins, but also the mod resource folders as well which allows you more control over what mod trumps another for things like textures. MO2 Never installs anything to your Game's Data Folder, and I think Vortex is the same. Both use a Virtual Folder System which is safer for your game installs and means easier mod uninstalls without having to remember What Mod Over-wrote What.

Great to hear. So many are still using NMM for this game and Skyrim SE and they shouldn't be.
If you have more questions, pop into the running help discussion called Commonwealth Coffee Shelter.
It's a place where us modding vetrans and some mod authors hang out to help people.

Also note that it's only plugins that are limited to the 255 cap. Just merge your plugins, it's fairly simple. I'm running waaaaay over the limit with NMM and the only issue I've had is the cc stuff takes up plugin slots (due to an improper install that I don't care about). Still not worth it to me to switch to a different mod manager. I really don't want to redownload 600+ mods again! When I ge tmy new system, I'll get one of the newer versions.

Can't "Just Merge" the plugins. LOL
It's a little more complicated than that, but Wrye does help you with it.
Using Merge Plugins also helps when you merge common patch files, like if you have 5 patches for one mod should be able to merge them. I cut my plugin count by 50 doing that. Val's sort mod is bad for that.

Oh, .esl plugins don't count towards the limit, but they have a limit of their own.

What is the limit for esl's, I've never heard that one mentioned before?

And from what I've seen when I use Merge Plugins, it's fairly straight forward. I've merged weapons, and armor without any major hiccups, as well as various other files (patches and things I consider quality of life mods). I suppose I'm missing something. But, my merges seem to work just fine. I will admit, I don't know that much about merging and just jumped into it after watching a few vids.

As an example, I had roughly 13 armor mods that I wanted to merge. I loaded up Merge Plugins, selected the mods I wanted to merge, checked them for errors, and then hit build merge. Seems pretty simple to me!

Whatever I'm missing about this, I suppose I will have to correct when I redo everything on my next system.
Yeah, weapon & armor, texture, etc are easy to merge. You just have to make sure that they've been added to the distributions list correctly.
Scripted mods and mods with patches shouldn't be merged with that program, only added to a Bashed Patch. Technically armor & weapon mods that are addd to distribution lists and levelled lists should only be Bash Patched as well, unless you only want them craftable.

Makes sense. I'll get into that "bashing" a little bit later I guess. I don't have the attention span to do that type of stuff just yet. But, thanks for the info!
