Boston After Dark
I'm doing okay. I secure the church, then scout ahead, trying to clear some of the area ahead, because I know I'm soon going to go through it with that incompetent fool, High Rise. I kill one super mutant on top of the building site they possess, and wipe out a band of raiders in Monsignor plaza--on the path to Ticonderoga. Back to the church.

Stocton shows up with the escaped synth, intoduces us, then signals High Rise. This is generally where the mission goes to Hell, and tonight is no exception. High Rise shows up, with his laser that fires in five directions. God knows I've never seen him hit anyone with it unless he gets to within 10 feet of him. He needs help....He always does. He'll lead the way. He always does, never deigning to sneak from dark spot to dark spot, the idiot stands straight up, and walks down the middle of the street like he's part of a marching band.

He attracts fire immediately of course. Firing wildly in all directions, and shouting slogans at the top of his voice, he soon attracts a crowd of raiders. I get three covering the retreat. Suddenly High Rise loses his way, and retreats into the super mutant area, where they keep at least one suicider and several dogs, plus the usual heavily armed regulars.

Oh no you don't, you moron. No way I'm going in there. In all the missions, this is where I usually get tagged. That suicider's nuke has my name on it. I retreat, and wait for Rise to find his way out of there. It takes him 5 minutes, my time. He REALLY wants me to come in there and clear out the entire band of super mutants. But even though his only armor is a lousy jacket, he never gets killed by the bomb, while I, in my armour of ballistic 112/energy 109 are dropped immediately.

We finally make it to Ticonderoga, where the harshest thing I'm allowed to say is. "I didn't come here to babysit your♥♥♥♥♥. God only knows how this lousy excuse for an agent ever even grew up in this neighborhood, but this has got to be the worst Railroad mission I know of.

Tonight I was just too good. I cleared the entire way to Ticonderoga, High Rise's destination. As a result he became confused, and just stood rooted in one spot for at least 15 minutes (my time). I walked all the way to his final destination, came back to find him still rooted in place.

Folks. High Rise came very close to dying tonight. That kind of sheer incompetency deserves it. But I finally got the clown moving. So, another lesson learned. Don't clear the whole trip from the church to Ticon, or the idiot will get confused, and stop moving at all. SHEESH!!!

I kite them back to him. since he can't be killed he makes great minefield bait. makes short work of those nukes.

I have seen that in all the escort missions or the follow me scenarios. You must stay at a certain distance from them or they just stop. Too close and they think you want to talk to them so they stand still. Too far and they just stop and wait for you to 'catch up'. You going so far ahead will not help. I usually clear out that entire area before starting that quest. There is also a deathclaw very close to the church. The three raiders you meet along the way will always spawn just for that quest.

I've seen the Deathclaw, but it's usually dead. That mission is the most frustrating in the Railroad book for me. For instance, why does anyone pick an energy weapon where the beam spreads out to the point of useless beyond 20 feet? Why absolutely no attempt at moving sneakily? The object of the mission is to move an escaped synth stealthily and quietly out of Bunker Hill. High Rise makes enough noise, they should be able to hear it in the ruins of CIT.

Speaking of unkillable H-22 must be also. I've seen him led through exploding trucks, hits from mutant suiciders, the works. Maybe he was a top secret, invincible super synth 3 Institute soldier.

I have always wondered about that laser. When an enemy has one, I take a lot of damage even though the beams are spreading all over the place. It looks like I am only being hit 1/10 the time. Methinks that the visual is totally wrong about where the beams really go.
High Rise and H-22 must be marked essential during that mission. I have seen them 'take the knee' but get back up.

The only ones who obviously aren't mission essential are us. If we die the game just starts all over again.

im not sure .. are you complainin or Braggin ???

danconnors Feb 2, 2019 @ 1:35am
Neither; just stating the facts.

I... honestly have never had a problem with that mission. I mean it's the usual escort mission bs, and screw those supermutants in that tower anyway, but the mission itself has never been particularly frustrating.

I tend to hang back with a sniper rifle and headshot enemies as they engage rather than trying to keep it moving along; e.g. I go forward a bit, as their 'leash' loosens so do they, I take out enemies, rinse, repeat.
