(Survival) Finding Virgil, what else instead of power armor?
I'm trying to give myself a big challenge (And to hunt achievements the hard way) by playing survival mode without a single time using the power armor (Except when i had to kill that Deathclaw during the first Minutemen mission), and i did alright so far, managing my economy, managing my armor with energy and bullet resist and such. But i reached the Glowing Sea mission, you know it? The one where you need to (SPOILER ALERT) find the defected Institute scientist who turned into a supermutant, right? Well, the only problem is, that i dunno which perk upgrade to try to play without using the power armor. I am gonna focus on doing quests nearby and reach the RADS resist and energy resist perk, cuz i know that when i'll face the Courser, i'll be prepared.

Which perk should do the trick on this one? Is the shining sea completely gonna irradiate my health bar to the greater extent?

I'm barely level 16 so far, and my (Default) SPECIAL is:

S3
P3
E5
C3
I2
A5
L1

You can just use the hazard suit with 1000 rads resistance which can be bought in Diamond City from the cloth vendor in the basement. Then just run through the glowing sea, maybe not from the north east entry but from the north at the border to avoid most fights against scorpions, deathclaws and ghouls.

You can also kill the Deathclaw in Concord without the power armor, just hide inside a house, go out a bit until it tries to attack you, run back in and shoot it.

Never imagined it. That does mean that i should be playing all over again from the beginning, this time by trying not to kill the DC with the PA, instead using that method

That does mean that i wouldn't be able to wear my chestplate and other armos that increase my damage and energy damage resistance... i like it

with mods theres an enclave scientist outfit with 1k rad resistance but it works differently
it doesnt reduce rads to 1rad per second, but it does reduce by about 50% i think
but yeah, use hazmat suit

Only mod i am using, besides live dismemberment (Which i cannot say quite well if it makes it easier, i just hope not) is the Extra Perk Points, raose them to 2 since i don't believe i am gonna spend the entire game reaching 250. But now, lowered it back into 1 after remembering the thrill of the difficulty

There is a neighborhood across the river from Taffington Boathouse which has some nasty super mutants, hounds and turrets.
But, there is an underground bomb shelter there which has a Rad Suit there.

With that, you're telling me that if i ever dare to walk into the Shining sea with nothing but my blue jumpsuit threads and my Raider armor, i'll be done for?

If you can mod your power armor with lead lining and make use of Rad-X, you should be fine.

Also, the Mysterious Serum will more than compensate for any lack of rad protection.

craft the Refreshing beverage.

Oddly enough, the Ghoulish Perk might be your salvation.

You could go hazmat suit + solar power rank 2 for complete overkill but that's not until level 27 and heavy investment in the END stat (but worth it anyway imo).

Otherwise, going only with the hazmat is probably enough as you won't ever get more than <1 rad/s with this gem. If you manage to sneak past enemies without spending too much time in the rads, you should be fine.

As the stuff stacks with itself you can run through the glowing sea in your undies if you take enough rad-x, just be sure to take a good supply of water.
Other consumables that add radation ressitance work the same way, with glowing blood packs being the best as they add a heap while not causing dehydration.

yeah you can stack rad-x with itself. and the stuff drops like candy.

Haz mat is more or less designed for this area sure, but a pile of rad-x should manage it.
