Chameleon Armor: Worse Than Useless
Sounds good, doesn't it. Kneel down, and remain motionless; you become invisible. Great Huh? Well, not quite so great. Used it first (and last) against a group of super mutants. I became invisible alright. Unfortunately my rifle became invisible also...to me. In addition my sight could no longer be seen, nor could I aim the rifle at the super mutants.

So, I'm firing at where I THINK the mutants are, but I'm missing. Meanwhile the green muties are firing at my gun flashes. They had a lot better chance of hitting me than I of hitting them. And, sure enough, I bit the big one on this, the one and only time I used this worthless armor.

Yep... It always ends up as vendor trash for me, as it does actually have a decent value compared to other legendary items, IIRC...

Just been ditching it outright in 76, what's more...

You should still have the green interface reticle for close-range aiming, and actual scopes should still work as normal. I've got chameleon armour on my main character, and haven't had any serious problems, though I do use VATS for the more hectic situations.

I had a bug where an explosion knocked my crosshair off-center. Had to restart the game. It's not that is it?

No, it's something with stealth itself... I've seen it happen once or twice when using stealthboys...

The other one is the pipboy screen remains invisible when accessed, meaning you can't actually do anything with your character while in stealth...

Scopes work, or do the sensible thing and use VATS

I was using a sniper rifle, and all I saw was a blurred mess. It was impossible to aim. I gave it to the reporter and had her kneel down, but she didn't disappear. I'm guessing it only works for the player, not NPC's so I let her keep it, because it had better armor class than the leg piece she was using. I now have her leg piece, and she has a better armor class than me.

I hate chameleon, mainly for the inability to navigate an invisible pipboy. Thing is that with muffled and shadowed armour and at least 3 in the sneak perk you can practically walk up to many of the things in game unnoticed so chameleon thankfully isn't something you miss. Though I do have about 30 stealth boys stashed somewhere incase I suddenly have the urge to roleplay as the woman from Fantastic Four for a day.

Before I'm done this character will have maxed stealth, maxed rifleman, maxed gunsmithing, armor, and science. She will routinely do over 200 points damage with a sniper rifle, from 200 yards away. Too bad about the armor though. Been a long time since I'd used any, and I thought they'd maybe improved it. Nope....

Stealthboys are common as dirt, and, IIRC, you can even craft them... Just stick with those if you wanna go a full Stealth build, IMO...

Agree.

yep thats something most people figure out right at the start of playing, that chameleon armor is useless unless you have it on settlers who can still benefit from the armor if its good enough. Other than that, just useless legendary mod.
I don't know to you but I'm finding quite useful and having infinite invisible time to be is too OP. I was luckly to find on lvl 13 and I'm still using the Chameleon Shadowed metal chest piece.

to be fair any tech that bends light around the user to make them invisible should blind them because well you need light to see. its a big oversight with scifi stealth and really you should be seeing pitch black when invisible so count your blessings.

Maybe Chameleon Armor is a cursed artifact.
