Is the sentry bot useful ? Is it better to have it destroyed and take the fusion cores from it ? I just came across that area, I'm currently level 18.

Get the cores - but at that level, I hope you have PA! and a big stick - it is tough for lower lvls
I never found an alternate use for it.

.....google people

You can use the control tape (or what ever its called) to order it to clear out a military position.

A large amount of xp gained from destroying this particular brand of robot and it's modded forms also!

I avoid destroying it. Fusion cores are sometimes hard to find, but you can always get more of them eventually, and XP is everywhere, while that specific sentry bot is unique. Even with the Automatron DLC, you can make use of it far more easily than you can build a sentry bot of your own (since all it requires is the tape).

Its easy to get Fusion cores.

You just loot the Plane crash over and over.

Tempenines Bluff.

Sleep (8 hours, 1 hour works but can cause problems)

Go to the plane crash loot. (EVERYTHING RESPAWNS, except for the Suitcase closes to the settlement at the crash site, also the fire exstigueser will not respawn if destroyed.)

Go under the wing and follow the road to the trash dumb (Place you rescued the settler from moles) loot the chest, bat and the containers in the house.

Proceed to the settlement down the road, drop off stuf, collect and store water production.

Go to the railrod station (Place where you find Dutchman and fought Gouls). Loot the chest, and everything that respawns. (Fire extingueser oil, and wrench in a box at top of tower does not always respawn. But will respawn if you are way for a while)

Go back to Tempenines Bluff peer over the clif and the destroyed house and see what random encounter you got. Be it a legendary creature or a really anything. Super mutans with rocket lauchers is rather common as is feral dogs.

Sleep and start over.

Overall you should loot...
3 chest (One at crash, dumb and railroad.)
3 ammo boxes (Plane crash)
6 stagnant weapon spawns (5 at plane, one railroad)
5 locked containers (all plane crash, hidden stash does not respawn nor count towards this, safe does respawn and counts as does several suitcases)
2 Stagnant medical spawn (Restroom Plane)
3 Medical containers (1 dumb, 1 plane, 1 Railroad)
3 Random encounter spawns (Plane, under bridge by second settlement and house by orignal settlement. Great way to farm Legendary)
8 Food spawns (All plane, great for excess cash)
2 Durg Cooler ( Plane)

I am board now. If you want a more detailed description on how to do it I can make a guide.
(Sorry for ♥♥♥♥♥♥ spelling just got of work and not really that interested in grammar right now)
