"Learning Curve" Scribes Bug / Glitch Warning

You have gotta watch these congenital idiots the way misers watch their purse-strings. When you're going on technical document and data hunting missions, chances are there will be hostiles in the area, and these cretins won't take commands—they won't stay put, but will place themselves in harm's way, making your job to keep them alive very taxing.

The reason why this is very important to realize is because your scribe getting herself killed has a high likelihood of triggering an irreparable mission-killing glitch as described here:

You return to the procter that gave you the research assignment to report Stupid Moron's death, and he chides you, but pays you anyway. So, you accept another Learning Curve mission from Procter Quinlan, who informs you that he's marked the next location on your map…but, he doesn't! The marker remains floating over his head, and if you try talking to him about his lie, he'll irritatedly tell you to get on with it.

You'll never finish that quest.

I had to load a save made right before setting out with that idiot scribe six times before I could get her home safely.

I'm done with these stupid research patrols. I'm on the third (?) one, the one where you go to the Corvega assembly plant, and idiot is standing next to the terminal he's supposed to access, doing nothing, like he's waiting for me to do something. I looked, and there's nothing there for him to download anyway, so screw this. This makes five missions so far I've found with progress-killing bugs. Bethesda Studios must have some real bags of hammers and boxes of hair doing their coding.

So I executed the stupid bastidge. Refusal to follow orders.

In Corvega Plant, i found a way to fix it.
In the place where got the terminal, go outside by going to the pipe and go back to it, the scribe will automatically hack the terminal

Thank you, kind soul. I'll try to remember that the next time I return to the game.

I know it's not that evident by the post that prompted your response, but I actually do enjoy this game, a lot. It's just so frustrating when I encounter bugs that kill mission progress. You know, I wouldn't mind reading a book set in this gameworld, this twisted alternate reality. Supposedly, one of the books that inspired the Fallout series was Nevil Shute's "On the Beach," but that's unadulterated crap; all of humanity dies in that story, and there are no monstrous mutations. Other cited books are quite questionable, apocryphal at best. No, I'd be interested in literature inspired by the games, not crap I've already read that bear no resemblance whatsoever to the Fallout timeline.

Or, if you don't need the rewards but still want the XP from the quest, well... Accidents happen...
