How do I attach a wire to a beacon?
I have a generator next to the beacon. I hit "space" to attach the wire from the generator. There is a red wire that comes out from the generator. The beacon is a few feet away. I try to drag the wire there and hit "space" again to attach it. I've tried when the wire stayed red and also after it turned black. It looks like it's attached before I hit "space" again but it never actually is.

I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what I need to do instead. Is there some particular spot on the beacon that I need to attach the wire to? Thanks for any help or advice.

It's not you, it's her. lol

Oh.. just to add, if you're right at the beginning of settlement building in Sanctuary, I have a feeling it won't allow you to recruit settlers until Preston or someone else tells you to. All they want at that stage is to have the basics - food for five (1 person assigned to that), a bit of power, Mama Murphy's chair, a bit of defence, water pumps, 5 beds.

Perhaps that's why you can't attach a recruitment beacon at this stage. I could be very wrong though.

Here is the quest details, at no point does it say build a recruitment beacon.

u got anything blocking the generator and the obj?? If not try moving the generator around
feralgal Nov 30, 2018 @ 12:03am
Thanks. I tried that. I tried moving the beacon too. I put them closer or further away. I never put the beacon more than like 10 feet from the generator, though. I've wasted over an hour trying to get it to work. I know Im doing something wrong but I can't figure out what I'[m supposed to do.

Maybe try using a mouse, Color should be green. I can not recall if it (the wire) should go to the top or the elect. junction box.

can you place the generator higher above the ground? Might ve been an angle-elevation issue
feralgal Nov 30, 2018 @ 12:09am
I saw the green in a video but I don't have green on mine. Everything stays yellow(ish) but I get an option to hit "space" to attach the wire to the generator then a wire comes out and, when I get near the beacon, I get the option to hit "space" to attach the wire to the beacon. And I keep getting that stupid message to attach the wire with no instructions on how to do so. (They do that with a lot of things and I don't get it. Tell me how to do it. It's like they['re trying to taunt the player instead of being helpful. Really bad design IMO.)

Thanks. I'll try that. I changed it a bit but maybe not enough.

I agree, Bites a lot.
I am fresh out of info for you, sorry.

You SURE you have nothing blocking the generator from the beacon? Move both to a flat open piece of land, place them next to each other and test it again. When you hover over the beacon it should glow white and the wire attaches to the top bit.

I'm sure. I took both of them to the street, then another location on the street near the bridge. When that didn't work, I tried moving the beacon to the generator by the creek. That one is hooked up to a water purifier. I redid that hook-up, hoping to figure out what I'd done wrong with the beacon. I had no problems with the water purifier but when I tried hooking up the beacon to the generator, I got nothing again.

But thanks for trying to help me. I appreciate it.

Maybe that particular beacon is glitchy. I may try in a bit with a different beacon or wait until tomorrow. This isn't fun.

Hmmm. Weird one. Maybe delete (scrap) the beacon and put down a new one? Also do you have any settlement mods that might be interfering in some way? Is it just at one settlement you're having the problem?

I will try deleting that beacon and making another one but I may not do it until tomorrow or whenever I play next. I think I'm done for tonight at least. All I've done is travel back to Sanctuary then try to get the beacon running. Well, and try to unassign Mama Murphy from whatever she's assigned to and re-assign her to gardening. (cant' figureout what she's assigned to. It looks like she's waving even though the only thing I tried to assign her to was gardening but she just sits in the chair.) I failed at that too. She just keeps sitting at her chair. The whole thing was a big waste of time and not fun so I will probably try again tomorrow.

I don't have any more settlements. When I get this fixed (or give up), I need to go to Tenpines Bluff and tell them I've cleared out the Corvega factory, then maybe set up a settlement at Starlight Drive-In or Red Rocket if I can figure out how to do that. I've deleted the radioactive barrels from Starlight.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. I did wonder if I could make the beacon before they told me to but I built other stuff before they told me to without any problems. None of it required power, though. I really wish they'd give you more in-game guidance, even if it's to click on an in-game manual or something. At least I won't waste more time with Mama Murphy.

What do I need to do to make settlements at Red Rocket and the Starlight Drive-In? I want to get those started so I can have the settlers working ASAP. Plus, I feel bad when i meet potential setllers on the road and can't ask them to come to a settlement if they want to.

Starlight is a big settlement area, so if I were you I'd start at Red Rocket (just down the road), which has the advantage of being able to connect a provisioner to Sanctuary (to share workbench resources) once you have recruited people.

Collect some of the harvested crops from Sanctuary (there are melons and gourds growing behind the house where the workbench is), or help yourselves to the tatos at Tenpines, plant them at Red Rocket by going into Workshop mode (V). Try to place a recruitment beacon there.

Assuming your beacon works this time, I would aim to get 2 or 3 settlers at first, one to farm the crops, one to put on defence (you can build up to 3 defence stations manned by one settler out of wood and steel) or to assign as supply line to Sanctuary. If you don't have someone on defence at least build a basic machine gun turret which gives 5 points defence.

There are no hard and fast rules in this game re settlement building, you can do what you like, just make sure there is enough food, water pumps, defence and beds to cover each settler. And enough power generators to run stuff that needs power.

Things will get easier once you know how the Workshop thing works, and how to assign people to various tasks.

Thanks. I have a fair amount of food, esp after wasting a whole in-game day (and more) trying to get the beacon to work. I did grab some melons, gourds, carrots and mutifruit from the garden in Sanctuary bc the garden was near a few of the places i tried to set up the beacon.

SInce I couldn't assign Mama Murphy to help with the gardening, I didn't plant more stuff there. I think I already have too many plants for just one person to tend. I also have some tatos from Tenpines to plant.

I know how to go into workshop mode but I don't really know all the stuff that['s there. I spent a couple of in-game days cleaning up part of Sanctuary so that I'd have resources so I used that mode a lot. I have one person assigned to gardening and one to the recycler or scrapper or whatever it's called.

I'll try to put a beacon at Red Rocket. Is that the only way to start a settlement?
