Easy way to track down the cause of CTDs?
Hi there,
after experiencing more and more CTDs, i decided to delete and reinstall FO4 with a minimum of mods. Thus my CTDs are still there. I'm using an existing savegame and now i want to know if the SG is corrupt or if one of thr mods is causing the crashes. These crashes appear on random occasions like when i'n throwing a grenade or when the last SG is loaded after i died. They really appear on a non regular basis. The last crash was after i selected a Sim Settlement building plan for Sanctuary. The moment the building sequence ended, it crashed.

All Mods are up to date and clean.

Try looking at your windows logs (my computer right click, manage, on the left event viewer).

Most likely, the log entries from when you crash will be like "faulting application fallout4.exe..."

Look at those for a .dll or other info, then Google your issue with the info from that log entry.

How I fix or determine what causes almost any CTD.

Two weather mods is your problem.

Also your load order is a mess. With a simple load order like that use LOOT, as it will arrange your load order and warn you of possible problems. ( i.e. two weather mods )

Skyrim writes log files, does FO4 do the same?

It's already sorted by Loot. There was also no warning of any problems.
I uninstalled Vivid Weather, but the CTD still appears. I'll try James solution next.

Edit: No events regarding FO4 in the event viewer. But papyruslog tells me a lot (170 pages full of errors) , but i can't figure out where to start fixing. These are the last entries:
