Synth? Wow!!! That threw me for a loop when I found out.

If you kill him you find a synth part on him. Also "Sturges is a third generation synth and was one of many residents of Quincy" Found this on the wiki.

Sturgess and Magnolia are some of the synths that had their memory wiped by the Railroad. I suspect Danse is one as well since he was never used by the Institute.

I'm pretty sure that sad-sack Jeung is one too. Someone dropped a mine in front of him just to get rid of him and said they found a synth part in the puddle.

if you dont want to kill Sturges the SRB in The Institute has a record related to someone of a very similar style if you catch the hint

yea danse is a synth but i never can pull the trigger.

I had the impression that Sturgess was an Institute placement.
Not so sure about Magnolia though.

He shows you how to build the teleporter to get inside, later he finds the way to get inside to attack it. Yet you though he worked for the Institute?
