PC vs Xbox vs PS sales?
I tried to finad a breakdown of the sales but I can't. I know they have about 18 million sales total. But I am wondering what the PC share is. Can anyone find numbers?

Edit: Correction - looks like the sales are something over 23 million but no one knows the real number.

Given it's only available on Steam:

Pc is the lowest amount of the three but there is no hard figure out there for the public really.

Also fallout 4 sold 12 million units on day one so I doubt that 18 million is correct.

Especially as bethesda has said that fallout 4 is the best selling game of theirs outselling even skyrim and that game sold around 20 million back in 2014.

Ok. Thanks.

I just see the line:
Owners: 2,000,000 .. 5,000,000

But I am not registering to log in to that site. Anyone see better numbers?

So, a max of 5 million on PC. Much lower than I thought.

Video games take Hollywood accounting and make it much worse, you won't find solid numbers for it

Nope, PC is biggest revenue for gaming for several years. Problem is that there are so many games sharing revenue pool, that one game dont sell like one game sell in consoles.

Keep thinking that. It's cute, but foolish to think that the number of PC gamers is anything close to console numbers.

You are both correct. FOR AAA TITLES the PC is a niche.

But the PC has 1000? times more games available than for all consoles combined. And creating for a PC is cheaper than for console+PC. Indies and small studios can do PC but not console.

Actually indies and small studios are getting onto consoles now. They have their own marketplaces now for them.. and it's actually simpler to code for the consoles as the hardware factor is eliminated (as in the infinite number of possible PC configurations)

So, in the future, consoles may completly take over. But not yet. I also think some little unknown games like WOW or Eve Online, etc have never been on consoles.

This is 2 years old but it has not changed that much in 2 years.

The amount of gamers in the world has reached 1.8 billion, with 1.2 billion gamers playing on PC.

PC does have lower sales but am sure they make up for it easily via profit margin per each unit sold. With console (due to having limited mass storage space options), one has to package said product which includes hard copy game manual, Disks, plastic cover box to hold all the stuff, etc) aside from the fact they have to hire workers to do so....meanwhile PC these days is pretty much all download.

soge99 - I think consoles are mostly download only now. As in, most of the sales are bought directly from the online store. Just like Steam. The physical copies in stores are more for advertising. You can still buy a physical copy of FO4 for the PC.
Also, the profit margin on Steam is pretty low. The big studios can probably negotiate a better deal but Steam normally takes a 30% cut. I cant find info on the cut xbox and playstation take.

You do know those numbers add up to over 100 percent right.
62 percent pc...
56 percent consoles...
35 percent smartphones/cellphones
32 percent wireless device
21 percent dedicated handheld

that's a lot more than 100 percent.

Not to mention other markets are more profitable than the PC. Both others and consoles.

Not to mention consoles have actually become more common since then in households. To the point they are almost reaching parity if not more common. as one trend site listed consoles at 53 and PC in house to 56 for games based on their sample https://www.bigfishgames.com/blog/2017-video-game-trends-and-statistics-whos-playing-what-and-why/

and as for money wise...

https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/newzoo-2017-report-insights-into-the-108-9-billion-global-games-market/

mobile is king, and console is right behind them.. with PC third with a decrease in overall sales

sources are saying that console sold more copys but that was only at game launch, no figures show how much much that PC got, but I bet alot of Console players bought PC version too just for the nexus mods
