The settlers that are not assigned to tasks will roam around and buy from the vendor stalls on occasion and that's the other main way. Happiness also does play a role in just how profitable a settlement will be, low happiness will result in a very "poor" settlement while high happiness will result in more trade happening.
all general stores would have the same inventory including caps.

Be sure to make a "hard save" before you install it ... then you can revert to that save if it goes wrong.
This is a non-issue if you just remember he's been reliving his glory days of upselling Vault slots up in his hotel room for decades and he really, really wants to tell you about it.
