Aim for the head and jump on rocks. Make sure you leave yourself room to run. VATS is usefull in killing them. Sniping them before they see you is really useful if you can one shot them. Carry Med-X to negate poison. And NEVER go melee regardless of build.

As far as weapon choice, whatever you're build is best with. I tend to find pistols really usefull against bugs in general.
the best way to deal with radscorpions is to kill them

Yep. Or run away quickly.
Use your most powerful short range weapons while you bail backwards onto rock. Except I usually get stuck on something behind me and die (since your character model is more like a slowly rotating small tank without a rear view mirror than a biped that can step over things or look over its shoulder).

Die lots of times until you start to get a feel for what their human-traps look like, and so you then start instinctively skirting them.

Focus your fire on the tail, stinger.

The most effective thing to target is always the legs. you stop a rad scorpian from getting the ability to charge you and you will when the fight. This works on just about everything else albino chameleon deathclaw charging you? Crippling a leg will slow the beast down to a pathetic crawling speeding.

How do deal with a Redscorpion? Don't install the mod that adds it. There is no "redscorpion" in the game.

Radscorpion, on the other hand, is easy.

I survived a legendary redscorpion attack at level 12 on my survival run. I was, as you can probably guess, COMPLETELY outgunned. I had a crappy shotgun that I kept shooting at the thing but of course reloading was a big issue. Once it got Dogmeat it turned on me and I knew that only one or two hits and I was done for... So I brawl it up with the thing, trying to get it to get stuck into anything... Don't work... I run like heck... Run out of AP... By that moment it just kept running at me or burrowing and resurfacing. I was stuck on a wall or something and the thing was charging at me... So I did the only thing I could!

.... weapon ♥♥♥♥♥ slap the thing to death!

Could not believe it worked either... But right before it attack you, after it run right next to you... If you time it right you can hit him every single time before he pincer you.

panic saved you

It wasn't panic. It is my overwhelming sense of competition that I developped over the years which led me to fight to the death with absolutely everything I had. It is like competitioning in sports: it is not the end until it is the end. Up to the end anything can happen if you bother to try.

Do side quests with the Railroad to get Ballistic Weave. Get Overseers' Gaurdian from Vault 88 for 4,000 caps (you want it as a sniper build anyway, for soooo long, only 1 type of legendary
.50 cal beats it).

Always VATS point-blank headshot.

They don't like being shot in the head. Nothing does. Staggers them pretty reliably and keeps them from 1-hitting you. If you see one before it engages you just remember to wait for your VATS points/energy to reach full before sniping it - and WAIT for that damn headshot. It'll eventually turn around. They always do.

edit; Oh and don't use a shotgun. Literally never. No enemy in the game takes more damage from a shotgun than a .308 Overseers'. Shotgun is the only ballistic weapon that suffers 0damage and poor registration bug like energy weapons

This seems so pointless to elaborate on but you are getting such horrible advice, I feel it is necessary.

I would have figured that any person could figure this out on their own...sigh.

You get upon a solid rock outcropping that you are pretty sure no radscorpion could ever climb up on (ie big with steep sides, etc.). If that isn't available, climb up on some twisted piece of scrap iron that used to be a building...whatever it takes.

The idea is to get above their stinger...so they can't sting you.

Then you kill them effortlessly.

Radscorpions are dumb animals...or are they insects? I probably should have taken more biology? You can spot them from many times beyond VATS range because their big dumb tails stick up into the air.

Climb up to a safe place and hope they don't disappear under the ground. That does happen...it's annoying.

If it does happen, you just jump down and stomp around making a lot of noise. That last holdout bug will come get you, then you can take them out.

This enemy has one trick: surprise you by popping out of the ground just behind you. If they spot you, or if you wound them, this is what they do. It's very easy to deal with. They are only seriously dangerous when there's more than one.

No perks or mods or special weapons are required - you just need to be smart enough not be standing on the open ground when they come for you...unless that is your stategy and you're expecting it...that can work too.

Uh no. The Combat Shotgun is my backup weapon and I always use it for close-range combat. Radscorpions rarely go down on the first sniper shot, so I often take them out with my backup weapon...because they pop-up at point-blank range.

You have completely confused your opinions with facts. No matter what the code itself says, I can assure you, combat shotguns are exeptionally effective at short range. If they could talk, there are a host of Legendary Albino Radscorpions who could tell you how effective my shotgun was.
