Enable modding?
How to enable modding

"Navigate to your Fallout 4 Folder at the following location "Documents\My Games\Fallout4"
Within this folder you'll find a number of .ini files.
Open (or create, if missing) Fallout4Custom.ini with your favourite text editor (we use Notepad++).
Add the following lines to your Fallout4Custom.ini

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Save and close Fallout4Custom.ini "

Is this still relevant? Can't I just install mods without doing that?

Yes it is and no you can't. nexus mods require those 3 lines be added to your Fallout4Custom.ini before nexus mods will work.

The game creates the Fallout4Custom.ini shortly after you leave Vault 111. Or, you can use notepad to create it yourself if you don't want to wait until you leave the vault.

Be aware that although there's not many, some mods Can Not be activated until After you leave the vault or bad things will happen. Everything from CTD to not being able to get the vault door opened so you can leave the vault.

It is best to not activate mods other than character creation mods until you get out of the vault and as far as Concord.

Ok, thanks. I looked at the .ini file and the adjustments were already there.

BTW, I installed Fallout 4 Seasons - Summer, and I experience some very annoying pop-in/slow texture load when I stand on top of Vault 111 and look towards Sanctuary. Is this normal? View distance and detail are all set to max.

Rig:

MB: ASUS MAXIMUS X CODE
CPU: i7-8700k
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080Ti ROG Strix Gaming 11GB
RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 16GB
PSU: Corsair RM750x
SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 250GB
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Monitor: 2560x1440 60hz

EDIT:

I un-installed Seasons, and the pop-in is still bad. Normal?

No, that is not normal. And although I don't use Seasons, I've never read anything about the mod causing that.

Your specs are More than good to run the game without issues.

Try just verifying the integrity of the game files. If that alone doesn't fix it, go to Documents/My Games/Fallout 4. Then delete both the Fallout4.ini and the Fallout4Prefs.ini. Do not delete the Fallout4Custom.ini. After that verify the files again and launch the game from you library. That will create new .ini's and may fix the issue.

If you have integrated graphics, make sure the game is set to use you 1080 Ti. Also, try doing a clean install of up to date drivers.

Edit; Try lowering your resolution to 1920x1080 just to test.

Also, shut down any unneeded background programs/utilities you have running that could be using your pc's resources.

Seems dumb to mention but, many players never seem to remember to clean the dust out of their case. Paying special attention to their CPU, GPU and fans.

Nothing seems to help. I can remember Skyrim's distant terrain didn't look very good either.

I am going to continue playing until I get to a place where there are more buildings and see how it looks then. Maybe I can tweak uGrids or something. Thanks. :)

Be very careful raising uGrids. Mine is set high but, it costs me 15fps or so. There's a Ton of controversy about raising it at all. Many say that it can cause things like enemy NPC's going agro too soon and entire interiors of NPC's going agro all at the same time. They also say that quests may fire too soon. IF, I have any of that happening in my game, or anything else negative, I've never noticed it.

Default uGrids is 5. Setting it to 7 won't make much difference and I suggest if you do raise it, set it to 9 and no higher. That should be somewhat safe.

OH, and once you do raise it, the new setting gets locked into your saves and you would have to start a new game to be able to set it back to 5.

Didn't know you have to start a new game if you change it back. Good to know.
