Because their "update" broke my install and now Steam wants to download 24.4 gigs (the whole game) again, however I have my game backed up and still fully modded, so with the above file I'd be able to trick Steam into thinking that my F4 is updated when in fact it is NOT and never will be, and I could just move my modded game back into steam, easy as pie. :)

If you'd be so kind as to share the file, I'd be very thankful.

Edit: an appmanifest is a simple text file that Steam uses to keep track of installs and updates. If you don't believe me, then open it in notepad.

I'm aware of what an appmanifest is, i actually played the stock release version. It doesn't support DLC and is less stable than the current version. I can understand you not wanting to download 24gb but if you have a backup why don't you just reinstall it via said backup?

The way I have been skipping updates for my games is by moving the files out of Steam, Steam then downloads the update, I delete the updated files and move my game back in.

However Steam has changed the way they do updates sometime in the last few weeks and as such if I move the folder out, then Steam thinks all files are missing and then downloads whole game. Cannot "restore" because app manifest is gone... so

a. I redownload the whole game.

b. some kind soul uploads a 30 kb file and saves me 24 gigs and 6 hours :) (capped slow internet in my country)
