Everything one shots me on survival mode
Not sure if there's a specific build you have to use to play survival mode. I keep getting my ass handed to me by random dogs while doing the follow the freedom trail quest. I have no points in END but i'm not sure if that affects my defense. As for armor I just have some pocketed leather stuff to carry more junk. I'm getting so frustrated i'm thinking of scrapping my current character and just going straight STR and END.

Is there any point survival mode gets... easy? lol

What level are you trying to walk the Freedom Trail?

I would also assume those dogs are the ones near Goodneighbor random encoutner location so them dogs are not your typical wild mongrels.

I'm level 14 at the moment.

Earlier areas will get easy, but areas with equivalent level enemies/higher level will probably always 2-shot your unless you are wearing power armor. If you are having trouble I'd recommend just putting on some power armor (or some beefed up combat/marine armor etc.), or investing into stealth perks. Dogs are a wierd one sometimes they will one bite you and other times they won't do much, can't really tell, but I just kite and never let them get to me. That can be said about most other enemies too. You never want to run straight into combat, you might not ever know whether the enemies will be lower leveled or be leveled enough to still kill you immediately.

Play slow, play careful, or wear Power Armor everywhere.

It seems like fusion cores last a few mins in power armor on survival mode. Is there a way around that?

My best advise is to stop getting shot. No, I am serious. For survival you need to completly change your play style. You CANNOT run-n-gun in survival. There are no piles of ammo and instant health packs laying around that you can just run over. You must sneak and snipe and use grenades.

Also, you can easy put 200+ hours into this game. But if you start and just follow the main quest then you will be 'done' in just 40+ hours. The main quest pushes you too fast. And the quest becomes meh. Forget the main quest for a while. Do all the Diamond City quests and then just do random exploring for a while.

On any particular run I carry about 2-3 cores on me. Personally, I only wear power armor to areas I am unsure about, or I know are going to be long drawn out fights, for more than just the armor, but also the carry capacity. There are some high level perks I am pretty sure (I'd have to check skills) that do make them last a significant amount longer.

They last less in survival? I hadn't realized I only really play survival anymore, so I've gotten used to it. Anyway, you can usually find replacement cores pretty easily once you get going, but 2-3 is a good amount I have found to carry on you without weighing you down too much, can always have a companion hold cores for you too. There are enough cores in the world on survival mode to wear that starting t-45 everytime you go out even in the beginning.

I always need to buy a LOT of them. Set up your settlement(s) to earn money. Don't sprint. That uses them up very fast. You can walk and not use them up at all. But I HATE that slow crawling along aka walking.

It all depends on your playstyle and game knowledge.

There is no shortage of fusion cores in the game, only a lunatic will suggest such a thing. So how fast you use them is kinda irrelevant.

Keep in mind that the rate a fusion core depletes is related to how much AP you spend. So a player that never uses VATS uses way less power than the players that uses VATS and sprints from place to place.

That low? Then again I am "that slow?" I am usually lucky if I make it to Diamond City before 50, lol.

Water is the most popular thing to 'farm' for money.

you can survive survival mode without doing sneak. Just use the covers and fallback if your current position gets under heavy fire.

It is difficult at the first stages though. That can be progressively easier once you get perks and better modifications. I have a mod that let the enemy's level scale with mine. That means that there is no "easy" combat, even if I got high level. It is all about the right tactics.

I can try to give you what I go, but a lot of my skill points I put in for later play. Like crafting, or for dlc down the line like for building robots. Also, robot companions are extremely overpowered. Anyway, if you want a good build look up some guides. If you are struggling I'd suggest anything that has to do with stealth.

Other guy is right, the story will actually dump you through some difficult areas if you follow it too closely in survival. It's better to explore around a bit and get some levels and gear that way.

Is there a specific part of the map i should stick to? Or ways to generate xp. I ve completely ignored settlements besides the basics. There's so much to do in the game my head is spinning. Now i'm googling where to find fusion cores and ♥♥♥♥
