Wrong. It is not necessary. It can be done after the Prydwen arrives.
In fact there is a difference in rewards for doing it before or after.
You actually DON'T want to finish this quest before meeting elder Maxson. There is a certain captain of a certain ship that gives a much better legendary reward if you turn the quest into him instead.
So tehcnically you could manipulate the console to clal up the right Brandis, but at that point, why not jsut console command yourself the right gun.
I was going to kill everone in the save file but that takes more time then i'm willing to spend without fast travel.
I was doing this quest last night actually but haven't finished the last bit where you meet Brandis. You reckon I could get Danse to accompany me on that bit if I complete the main questline up to when the Prydwen arrives?
Myself personaly I dont use energy weapons, they tend to misfire in VATS far too often.
