Actually it's not a bad idea to keep all the companions together in the same spot that you don't have max affinity on. When your doing Preston's quests and you keep turning them in and getting new quests this will impress your other companions and eventually you'll get romance dialogue options.
Avoid lockpicking, or leave him away when you doing it, he dislike it.
The cons of the Glowing Sea is that enemies dont respawn so fast... I think I have explored the Sea... 10 times? I know every rock of it now :p
