Is there a way to remove the protected status from settlers so they can be killed by npcs?
As the title says is there a command line you put on your ini file or something that can do that? im bored of settlement attacks never resulting in any settler actually dying

mods can do it, but there are no commands or ini edits that will do it.

Has to be done through the creation kit

setessential <baseID> 0 – Allows the NPC to be permanently killed.
setessential <baseID> 1 – Sets them to be unkillable.

above from Fallout 4 wikia and it's NPC manipulation Part of the console command Fallout 4 wikia page http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_console_commands

That has to be done for each settler, a mod can remove the protection without needing to click each one individually

I think the mod is called Mortal Settlers.

I have been debating on using that for settlers, but problem is provisoners dying would be a constant pain in the ass. Simply because the issue is that settlers never level, so a provisoner is nothing but meat on a stick late game.

I think it would be interesting simply because it would put the death happiness penalty to use (outside the arena.)

Yeah after playing around with the new ambush kit I can see mortal settlers making it a LOT more interesting.

thats the main reason i actually wanted to make my settlers "mortal", the attack waves are great

Yeha becaus eI figure having mortal settlers would force you to go play wiht another settlement while a previous one recuperates its losses through recruiting.

Better Settlers has an option to make settlers mortal too, and does a lot more.
But:-it needs additional mods (for clothing, faces, hair and so on). It can also disrupt Sim Settlements (it can disable NPC behaviour, making them stand around like the mindless ghouls they actually are;)

Yeah, I had a mod I had to ditch for SS, stop and relax with shorter work day. It sounds like a good idea at the time, but practicality wise, it sucked. After constantly having to chase down store people and having the Vault 88 item idler issues it got removed. I mean I literally had a population of 24 settlers all standing around the one recreational zone.

My understanding is that provisioners sole purpose is to tie the workshop supplies of your settlements together? I would not consider that to be too big of a deal if you had to replace provisioners on occasion. My question would be are you notified when a provisioner bites it? I suppose you could just pull up the map and. see if any of your settlements had lost their connection.

I spend a significant amount of time equipping settlers with armor and weapons so I want it to make a difference and would be willing to lose settlers in fights because I think it would make the game more interesting.

I'd be willing to give something like Mortal Settlers ago, I would just hope that it does not mean settler carnage as a rule. Anyone use that mod? If so what has your experience been with it?
Thanks!

I took all settlers from essential meaning they dont die to none essential meaning they are in danger from the Wasteland. This makes attacks more dangerous by far and the game more realistic. Its a box tic in the Creation Kit for every NPC.

Provisioners are still essential and cant die though in my game and everyone elses. Never looked for how to make them none essential.

To change it may have something to do with scripting which i know nothing about.

This is done easily in the Creation Kit. Its a box tic difficulty. Just unchoose essential. Then save. Done.

This does take some time to do with all settlers, i did it myself, but its easy and other NPC changes you or anyone else wants can be done in the same personal mod. For example companions dont use ammo or need power armor repair.

I am very surprised no one else said this yet. The free Creation Kit is the best thing about Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Its easy to use, and can be simple, to advanced where literally anything is possible.

It is more than an occasion. Especially if you started Automatron and have not changed to sentry bot provisioners.

Nope.

Sim Settlements Conquest turns off the flag as well.

Thats Bobbi No Nose a ghoul. Just have to change NPC menu to human is all. Done.

Creation Kit very easy to use.

I always hoped someone would make a mod changing ghouls to blue aliens or something but thats to much to ask i guess, or if anyone did it, it got taken down.
