CTD in workshop mode - scraping
well crap..

I think my game save has become corrupted in fallout 4.

for some reason...went to jamaica plains to edit it a bit & now when I scrap anything the game crashes to CTD...no idea why...

From what I have read online, it could either be a mod related issue or this one rare vanilla bug that involves generators

Either way, looks like I am going to lose all 14 days of gameplay if I can't figure this out. So far it only CTDs in one settlement.

I don't use "Scrap Everything" & I do use Sim Settlements. The game has been running with no issues for quite some time till today. Never had any scrapping issues till today.

any advice would help.

thank you.

You might be hitting in to Scrap Crash. It is a simliar problem with Power Crash. They are not same, but come from similar sources.

If you don't have a full save nearby, then there is not much we can do. It is a vanilla engine issue. Rare one, but bloody annoying.

If you can use the SS desk in the settlement, then you could tyr to return it to vanilla state, by using option to "Tear it all down."

Update:

Went to Red Rocket, scrapped a random coffee pot...no CTD...built a scaffold then scrapped it no CTD.

Went to Jamaica Plains....built a scaffold....then scrapped it & got a CTD...reloaded the game...went to Jamaica Plains again...placed a generator & CTD...

so it looks like I may have gotten the generator related bug....does anyone know how to fix this without having to lose hours of gameplay? I haven't changed anything in my mods recently & this is all brand new. I do believe that Jamaica Plains is the only settlement effected by this.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

@Ilja

I have no SS relataed builds in my Jamiaca Plain settlement...

if i were to use the SS desk to tear everything down...will it also effect items I placed in workshop mode?

In that case you could try console command scrapall which will scrap absolutely everything that is scrappable in the settlement.

Not really a safe command with scrap crash, but worth to try.

I presumed that you had SS plan in use there. In that case returning the whole settlement back with the SS Desk would have restarted the process and maybe(!) solved the issue.

Crash is hard to solve. usuall people just shut down everything from the settlement and ignore them from that point on.

Hold on. I forgot that Kinggath has added a command, which may be another option to use. This is the one for Jamaica Plain

cqf kgsim_cpmanager ForceClearSettlement 001654cf

From KG:

The console command is kind of an emergency use only thing - it literally gets rid of EVERYTHING - including the settlers. It will return all the stuff in containers and your workbench to your inventory though. So if you have companions there, I would not use this.

@Ilja,

Thank you for help. I will try both options to see if it works. If not...well crap...there goes that game save...

good thing about this game is it does have a lot of replay value...would be my...I dunno....15...20th restart/replay? lol

Ok, so I did the console command & everything scrapped with no issues.

however, as soon as i went to place a vanilla generator the game CTD...

looks like we're heading in the right direction though.

Leave from the area and let settlement to reset at least 72 ingame hours. It needs to unload and reset, so take some distance - at least the amount between Red Rocket and Starlight Drive-in.

If that does not solve it, then I am afraid it might be gone for good.

After doing some reading I double checked my load order & the unofficial fallout patch was out of placed. I did just update it so I figured that could have been the problem. So I used LOOT to move it to the top of the load order & placed a generator in Jamaica Plains & it crashed again.

I will try what you said about waiting away from Jamaica Plains for 72hrs in-game. Going to do it later as I need to step away from this for a bit. Getting annoyed, ya know?

Thanks for your help. If I get it working, I will post. If it doesn't work, I will post.

I've had some issues that were similar when accessing workbenches, and getting CTD's. It could be a mod conflict. I lost a save game that was getting near to the end game because of that. To fix it I literally had to go through and active my mods one by one to find out what was causing it. The tricky thing is, it might not be a faulty mod, but a tangle between two or more mods causing the issue. It is odd that it's happening just in Jamaica plains though. That seems to point to a mod issue. I don't know anything about the generator conflict to comment on that. Either way, I hate to say it but your save might be screwed. Fallout 4 really is not friendly to removing mods in game.

Morning,

So I went away from Jamaica Plains to RR Truck Stop, slept for 24hrs then waited for 5 days...went to Jamiaca Plains & went to build a generator & boom...game crashed.

So this sucks, looks like my game is still crashing whenever I scrap or place a generator in my workshop....womp womp....

The only mods I recently updated is the UFO4 patch & that was done through the main menu of the game

Oh well, gives me a reason to play from the start again =D

I have several saves where it is different version of myself as part of the factions in the game. This save happened to be my Minutemen save. A lot of it was settlement based builds using Sim Settlements. With this random bug now effecting that particular save...gives me a reason to start a new game & to uninstall a couple mods.

Thanks to all that responded.

It isn't always safe to update mods mid game, but I reviewed UFO4P changes and have played the game after update.

I don't think the update is the source of the problem. I think you just had a bad luck to encounter one of the more severe rare engine bugs. Sad thing.

Kinggath posted all his files about this to Bethesda. No one is working with FO4, but they have added few fixes with Creation Club updates. If the solution is easy - which it might not be - then there is a chance that someone in Bethesda will post it with CC patch.

Started up a new save & got to sanctuary. built a generator & scrapped it with no CTD.

I believe you are right. I somehow got hit with a bug & it is what it is.

Disabled several mods before starting my new game. This play through I am just gonna focus on the main story of the game instead of building settlements. Not sure how I want to play it just yet but debating. Keep thinking once I get to the whole building the sattelite relay (which is kinda where I was but got side tracked with side quests) thats when I will go either Minutemen/BoS/RailRoad.
