The way spawns work is you get a group and X will be minimum level for the area, then some are middle of minimum and your level, some are equal to your level, and some are slightly above your level.
The exception to this is random encounters, random encounters can exceed the minimum level for an area. This is why the Automatron spawns are such great xp.
Other places I like to re-hit at higher levels:
Nuka World --- The Bradburton Overpass Gunner outpost.
Far Harbor --- Pine Crest Cavern can be kind of fun. (Trappers). Another one is the Northwood Ridge Quarry which has Mirelurks, a Mirelurk Queen, and Trappers.
If combat is just a formality then there really isn't any need to waste time incrementing a meaningless number.
The lures are much better than a monster farm (using the large traps... the cost on them is high)
plastic, fertilizer, and Flamer fuel. the jet fuel is pretty good XP. unfortunately the shipments are kinda tiny, 3 locations having shipments of 50 so I pick them up periodically and craft them up.
crafting is generally the easiest way to farm XP. if you have the DLC there are probably better crafting recipes. but yeah. 300 fertilizer will get you a decent chunk of a level. run some brotherhood radiant quests, kill some enemies, buy some fertilizer, repeat.... levels up pretty well.
500 or so XP for the brotherhood quest, 150 fertilzer each cycle which makes 75 jet fuel which is 975 XP. 1500 XP or so + the XP for the kills.
Settlements can be set up to create adhesive, which can be in turn used to craft power armor modifications which yield OK XP, and really good caps.
anyways getting to level 120 is no big deal if you craft jet fuel and vegetable starch.
woosh
I really wouldn't recommend doing that though...
You can also build various cages in a settlment and fight whatever mob you want to attract.
Too bad you're not playing on survival. It gives you double experience points for everything. Early on if you stop by that settlment that has the large pillar in the middle of it, there's a book at the top that grants 25% experience on speech checks against guys, Sunshine Coop has a magazine that gives double meat for kills, and meat translates to more experience points. And if you get max affinity with Pipper you get bonus experience for exploring and speech checks.
I'm currently level 108 on survival I've done the main quest til the institute, farharbor, and just started Nuka works raider settlements. I have a fair amount of the game to still explore and because of the way saving works with advancing time some of the earlier spots I cleared are starting to get mobs again.
I can not recommend this is enough. Seriously. Its like a new horde mode game. Read that again because its awsome gameplay.
I have Longfellow cabin. I scrap all I can, without scrapping mods. Build Concrete tower. In roof of towet is Lures and ammo boxes full of ammo..... No turrets or settlers....
Just me and my guns against hordes.... I have get my levels from 121 to 162 for killing hordes...
Long fellow cabin is full of power armors, legendaries drops like flies....
