Fallout 4 crashing within 10 seconds on startup

I have recently wanted to play fallout 4 again after a few months. I completley reinstalled the game but for some reason the game will crash after about 4 seconds from launch. Any idea on how to fix this?

Crashes on main menu once you click any button? Disable it in Window Defender:

Worked in my case, game did crash after I pressed any button in main menu, now works like a charm.

Nope :/ It will just crash without me even touching my mouse and keyboard.

Same here, and I just did a new install. I'v ebene playing it regularly, and a couple of weeks ago, it started crashing before I even pressed a button, during the start up screen, about 15 seconds in.

instead of going around locking up stupid threads, Jack should pin up those posts about ctd on startup. Maybe licking fo 76 is your job, but if people cannot play fo4 then they would not consider buying fo76 at all

Posted this in Sea Shanties thread and I'll post the same thing here.

Start with the basics. Post your system specs as seen by steam. In the top left corner of steam (above where it says LIBRARY), click on help, than System Information. Inside the window that opens, right click and choose - Copy all text to clipboard. Then paste that info in your next post.

When your game crashes , 9 times of 10 , it's a mod I seen some mods that crash your game in minutes (I downloaded one that did this for days until i realized it only hours ago) and I've seen other mods that crashed my game so badly , I ended up having delete EVERTHING to get the game going again

I know that there are other factors that causes it , but for the most parts (in my experience) I get sick of playing certian mods and after a while I'm continuing swapping out mods .

I've tried link that gniady has posted. It fixed my problem with crashes. I only mention that it may not be mods problem because I've played on clear Fallout version and my game was instant crashing after turn on.

If you ever crash again read this and try.Im pretty sure you will crash again.Look how many hours i spent into fallout 4.3/4 of them was played with CTD here and there.Until i finaly figure out wtf was happening.Wich is couple month ago.




Before you mess up with anything like i did this past years to make this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game work without crash and trust me ive SEACH a lot.Try these 2 thing first.

Unplug internet or block your internet with your firewall and turn steam in offline mode.If you had a game already started,load the save and once its loaded dont move or its will crash,just save again and leave the game.Return ingame and load your new save then enjoys....

second thing to do,turn off grass to the minimum lvl.This one didn't do anything for me but ive it at min too just incase.


For some reason,that only betha know,when you have internet on and playing the game since they have put club online its randomly crash.No one know why for sure.


Trust me,ive try a lot of stuff before doing these 2 lil change.I got high end game computer.i9 cpu and 2 1080 ti on SSD.Nothing was fixing the CTD.Now i can play for 8 hours in row without any CTD or lag.Ive start a new surivial game just because of the fix wich i enjoy REALLY.Im using tons of mod atm wich ive never done in the past.Mods like sim settlement wich is engine limit for the game and the script system without any issues.
