The lever-action rifle's ammunition capacity and firing speed is definitely slower, but it normally deals substantially more damage per shot than a combat rifle.
Rifleman 4,Gun Nut 4.
Both guns in question have the "Dual-Shot" effect.
I expect a bolt action rifle to at least deal twice the damage of the Combat Rifle, but hey.
Sadly, the loading animation is borked. Reloading a single round into a rifle with four rounds already in the mag, causes the loading animation to cycle through filling the mag as if it was empty.
Without Two Shot, the same setup is giving 172 on the combat rifle, and 235 on the lever action rifle. It's all pretty much as expected, and I've never used any game mods with Fallout 4.
EDIT: Just to be clear, by game mods I mean downloaded stuff to change the game. By part mods, I mean the normal item modifications you can apply even in a completely vanilla game with nothing but official DLC or Creation Club stuff.
The lever action is defo fine for sniping. Wouldn't use it up close though. At a guess, it's aimed (sorry) at traditionalists. The low ammo capacity is just one of those tubular magazine things.
As for ammo, the trader in Far Harbor typically has a few hundred rounds available. I was initially put off by the rarity of the ammo. I managed to build up a huge amount through buying everything the trader had for sale on each trip.
What's really a shame is that they forgot to add DLC ammo compatibility with the fantastic Scrounger perk. I got a mod that fixes this and it definitely feels better than having to buy them constantly.
Lever-Action hits 245 while the combat rifle does 167.
I did play around with the console on this character,so that might have been the root of this issue.
