Sanctuary quest bug?
I'm new to the game and I'm trying to complete this sanctuary quest. Got through the first two parts fine, but when I get to the food, I guess I don't get it: I planted all the melons and gourds I have, assigned every single person to one of them, and still I'm at 80% food provided. What am I missing? Is this a bug?

each person can attend 6 crops plants. you don't need to assign more than that

If you didn't collect any food before starting there isn't enough right away. Sleep for a day or two then harvest the food and plant more. Or leave and go find some and when you come back plant it. Mutfruit is the best as it provides 1 instead of .5 and in diamond city they have an entire field of it that you can harvest.

I may be misreading your thread.

You must have enough food for every settler you have in a settlement. In other words, 20 settlers and 15 food is not enough.

Assuming you only have the initial 5 settlers from Concord, you'll need 10 plants unless you're planting mutfruit. Except for mutfruit, crops yield 0.5 food per plant. Mutfruit yields 1.0 food per plant. Mutfruit you'll find later; so, to feed the settlers from Concord at the beginning you'll need 10 gourd, melon, etc. and Sanctuary starts with just 5, I think - 3 melons and 2 gourds. All you need to do is harvest each of the 5, replant those fruit, and then make sure you have 2 settlers assigned to food (1 settler per 6 plants). That should get you to 100%, i.e. 5 food total for the settlement's 5 settlers.
dumping extra food into your workbench does help a little once you have the 10 plants planted.

Langkard one settler is enove, its one settler per 6 food production, not per 6 plants.

What this guy said. You need 1 food per settler. So if sanctuary has 6 people, you need 6 food.

Mellons are 0.5 food, which means you need 12 mellons and 2 workers to reach 100%.

You don't need two, only 1. Every settler can harvest enough for 6 units of food not just 6 plants. So Marcey (the default) is all you need at the start she will harvest enough for everyone.

Yep, you are right. So they will tend to 12 plots so long as they are 0.5 units.

Just as an aside. It's a good idea to switch over to a combination of corn, mutfruit and tato as soon as possible to help alleviate the early scarcity of adhesives by growing the ingredients for vegetable starch.
