Black screen Crash to Desktop on starting

Okay made no mod installs before the current lates *patch* by bethesda and now game crashes on start.....did tehy fark up somethign in a mod AGAIN and I have to AGAIN redownload part of the game to FIX thier Fark up?

this can be fixed If you can run the game in windowed mode, and it crashes when you try to go to fullscreen mode, don't panic just do the following:
1. Start the launcher.
2. Select your settings.
3. Close the launcher (don't start the game)
4. Go to your Fallout4Prefs file. (It should be located on C/Users/[your name]/Documents and Settings/My Games/Fallout 4
5. Find the following lines:
bBorderless =
bFull Screen =
iSize H =
iSize W =
6. Set it like this:
bBorderless = 1
bFull Screen = 0
iSize H = [your desired resolution height]
iSize W = [your desired resolution width]
7. Save and close the file.
8. Launch the game.
9. Enjoy the fake fullscreen without crash on startup ;)
It worked for me so I hope it will also help some of you who also experience this problem.
Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\my games\Fallout4
Open fallout4prefs.ini, find bGamepadEnable and set it to 0.
Save the file and start the game.



NOTE: use thease if you know wha your moniter size is iSize H =
iSize W = and you can run the game windowed no border. your welcome.

uh.....yeah @Sand_Man thanks for the info but I already tried that ;/ sadly it failed for me so

Well I deleted the DAta folder and redownloade it and the game started.


BUT. I went and readded a couple mods back and the second I added them the start options thing will come whens tarting..then black creen for 2 seconds then Boom back to desktop I delte the mods from the data folder.....same thing...wtf

well the Data folder redownlaod worked til I added nexus mods then started again......even after deletign the mods from the folder still did it

delete your fallout.ini file in your my games folder in my documents and disable steam cloud sync

My cloud sysncs already off. butI will try the ini after redlodign the data folder.... No diea WHY just removign the esm File which was all the nexus mod put in would nto fix it...but meh

The file gets corrupted sometimes during updates, or changes and tries to load bad code into the game during startup. had that problem a couple times

Well IT worked fine after deleteign data folder and no mods or CC stuff was in there ....Who knows....*facepalms*

Could have been something left over from a mod, had that problem with one that was mod manager installed that had an extra ui file included

okay Did as said and it did NOT start. Insta CTD. Went and set the fallout exe admin and It worked....downloaded mods fromt he in game thing quit started tried again...later DID NOT start. Deleted the file....ini it did not start I tried starting a second time again and it DID start wtf? I have no idea whats going on now

Okay small note I Tried startign after getting it working and posting here and Whammo It would not start tried startign 3 times nada I delete teh pref things and it works again though If i have to do this EVERY time now.....

dont use ingame option for mods..

its broken like all Beth products...

use another source

Yeah I thought of that. Tried straight nex mods. And still same thing Hangs at start on a black screen or Quick CTD

Don't suppose it could be those opening video things screwign up somehow?
