Insane FPS drops on certain parts of the map
Im looking for a fix, and no not a Chems type of fix. But more like a fix to this terribly optimized game. I get terrible FPS in parts of boston and sometimes even when I look at a certain area of the map it drops. I have shadow distance turned to medium and god rays off.

1070ti
16gb ram
i5 7600k

whats the speed on that CPU? if its over 4.0 ghz im gonna suggest turning shadow quality down if you havnt already.

also turn off bethesda's high res pack if your using it. its garbage and really over bloated waste of SSD and especially HDD storage space.

You're going to get some amount of fps drops in downtown Boston and at the Corvega plant unless you get real lucky.

This game should not be ran at any more than 60-80 fps max.

Make sure vsync is off in your Nvidia control panel 3D settings. Also in 3D settings set power management to "Prefer Maximum Performance".

You can go to Documents/My Games/Fallout4/Fallout4.ini, then [Display] and change iPresentInterval=1 to 0.

Make sure you do not have the free HR Texture pack DLC installed.

You could try playing at a lower resolution.

Which ever one you're playing at now, switch between Fullscreen and Borderless Windowed modes and see which one gives you better performance.

In Nvidia [Display], Change Resolution, make sure your refresh rate is set to either 59 or 60Hz. If you have a 144Hz monitor, try setting your refresh rate at either 72 or 100 Hz.

yeah shadows and things of that nature will be your PC's bane, a 3.5 quad core can handle the basics but the high end shadow maps and drawing dynamic terrain shadows will cause you to chug. and certain areas of the map utilize a lot of shadows for visual presentation.

There's no getting away from some areas of the game having bad FPS. You get used to it after a while (because you have to). Turning off AA helped my PC a bunch.

I uninstalled the BS High Res textur pack and turned off Vsync and performance skyrocketted. Thanks everyone.

i have a 980ti, a 7700k i7 at 4.5 ghz, and 16GB of ram, unlocked FPS is about 70, with Vsync on like its supposed to be i sit at about 62 at the most and 60 on the bottom end.

unless i do something dumb like pile up a bunch of land mines only to have a mole rat trigger them while im placing them right in my face.

lol yeah that high res pack was probably what was doing it.
