So, a confirmation about Liquid Nitrogen
You know what liquid nitrogen does to human tissue?
As I suspected, Vault Tech used Liquid Nitrogen to put us in cryostasis. I just wasn't sure about it until I found this terminal entry in the Vault Tech Regional Headquarters.

Nothing in particular that having the water in your cells chilled to 77K doesn't do on its own.

Ice crystals form and tear cells apart.

And that can be stopped by forcing the water to vitrify - and there are already ways in the real world to do that safely. Or, at least as safely as chilling a person down to 77k with no known way to revive them can be.

Yeah, by today's technology anyway.

Yeah, by today's technology anyway.

Realistically there is no tech that could freeze a human body and have it survive. It's not the freezing that's the issue, it's the thawing out. The body is made up of roughly 60-65% water. When the body freezes, it forms ice crystals throughout the brain. When thawed, the brain just melts.

the tech in this game is to very tongue in cheek, based on old sci-fi tropes, so it gets a pass.

I remember some of the old movies (and new movies) where that was a thing. Thawing out after a long "sleep" as they called it.

Sounds like somebody better call Mr. Freeze.

The closest medicine has come to "hybernation" is by lowering the body temperature enough to allow for surgeries that would otherwise kill the patient.

Given that they monitor a variety of life functions, it's likely that they're going for some kind of Alien-style cryosleep, instead of literal freezing.

One of the Vault 111 terminals mentions them regularly monitoring cardiopulmonary and cognitive activity, and they were also monitoring respiration, since most of the pods report death from asphyxiation due to life support failure. None of that would be relevant to people who were properly frozen.

It seems Vault Tek wasn't exactly expecting everyone who was put into stasis to live either. Giving instructions prohibiting any life saving intervention and disposal of cadavers in case of death..
