Most encryptions have some kind of pattern if you look for it. That's the trick to undertading how it works. It's not using "Enigma" (as was used in WWII).
The catch with this is the password changes at every reset.
As you understand the patterns, it becomes a bit easier to "crack it" with less tries and wasted time.

~ unlock .....

Thats what I do with terminals. 90% of the time the terminals only contains some lore messages. Problem if you fail the hack the terminal stays locked... and then you have to cheat it anyway.

why would you fail?

I really wish people would post their age after comments, if the OP posted his age we all could have saved ourselves a lot of time
Why would I bother? It doesn't add anything to the game for me, hacking is a chore, I really only care about the lore. It's just like Deus-EX, I really am not going to hack all the computers in the game. It's fun to do it 10 times perhaps, not 300 times.

Oh and as for age, I could probably be your daddy.

Hacking and Lockpicking were fun the first time around, and it was fun to have Nick and Cait as companions and do their thing. But it eventually becomes a chore.

And when the game gives you the option to never get locked out or to have indestructible bobby pins, imo once you reach that point you're better off using a cheat for easy lockpicking or instant terminal unlock.

What's the point in sitting there for 15-30 seconds playing a mini-game that you can't lose?
