watch a video on how to do it if your too lazy to read or learn .
better yet dont install it
It not only makes the installation very easy, but it also handles EVERYTHING for you without needing to maticulously read the manual install instructions for every single mod and every single optional setting. Additionally, not every mod will have manual installation info (like true storms).
There are plenty of good installtion tuts like this one from "Gopher". he has quite a few baby step videos:

Manual installtions are just... not good. Please don't take this as a "hostile post", I've learned from experience manual installtions are horrible. Havea great day man :D let me know what you think, mod managers are worth the effort to learn.
EDIT: Also worth noting that with NMM, all you do is hit the "NMM" button on the Nexus and find the file in NMM under the "mods" tab, simply right click > "install and activate". You will get some prompts for additional options, then it will install and activate the mod for you.
Except for the mods they dont install / uninstall correctly. Mod managers are the reason these forums are flooded "Mah game broke bethesda sucks" threads. If more people actually understood what the managers actually do and how files are structured for these games it would be alot easier to fix things. Theres something to be said about installing manually. The only downside is disabling mods, They do it in one click, I cut and paste 3 folders and my entire game is vanilla again. If you keep both installs on the same drive I can revert to vanilla in less than 30 seconds. I know every file ive installed myself, I know where to find something If need be. I know how to solve conflicts. Been doing it manually for every beth game since oblivion in 2006. Even things like huge fomod structures take only a few minutes to install, I actually learned to read fomod scripts just so I could install those manually too. (Sometimes you dont know whats needed and whats optional)
People use managers because they don't want to learn, Not because its the better way.

Lots of odd statements there... I think if those people who can't even use a mod manager properly tried manually installing their mods they would have more of an issue. Not really sure what the last statement means either, that's a really bold statement right there... Also, what mods don't install properly? Really curious as i've never come across any that weren't user error from optional settings (DERP
Bold? Maybe, Sure there are people who use it for convienence. Sure there are people who actually know how to mod manually and use managers anyways. But i would say the majority uses it because they only have to hit the green checkmark.
It just seems like a daily occurance people posting here about broken games. The process hasnt changed much since oblivion. Drop it in the data folder and enable the plugin in the text file. Its quite literally the same just the plugins.txt has moved locations.
I literally just finished helping a friend who botched his directories restore his game. Im not positive, But pretty sure it was from loose files left behind by NMM. Things like reshade and ENB have issues with nmm. Reshade now has its own installer, Sometimes you have to rename the enb files to get them to work. Things outside of the data folder seem to have the most issues. Sometimes im not convinced they remove the files peroperly. I just dont see the benefit of using a manager.
As for the people who don't know what there doing, Its the managers and their glorified checkboxes that has rendered their game broken because they make it too easy to get into trouble. Now they have no idea how to fix it because they didnt install it themselves.(like my friend who had loose files lefover and no .rar archive to find the files because he deleted it after installing.) The minute the software fails them they are hooped. When I started I believe my first mod was some cool armor someone made. I kept seeing it around and eventually it drove me crazy enough that I learned how to install it. Did it work the first time? NO. Did it work the second time? Dont think so. Did I have to reinstall the game? More than once. But it didnt take long to learn the structures. Its almost a game in itself just modding. Rewarding on the best of days.
I dont like the virtualization some managers use, I find it utterly pointless to take something so simple and have files spread all over the place. The mods belong in the data folder, Not my my root c drive. I keep full directory backups anyways. We all should know by now the vast majority of mods are unsafe to remove mid game anyways. So whats the benefit of the virtualization? More things to go wrong? More layers of confusion. Maybe to have seperate mod profiles for different save games, But that can be accomplished other ways.
Call me oldschool, But when my game breaks, you won't see me on here asking for help.

His ini edit is outdated if anyone uses that video you should have nothing after this line:

Silent, I'll take a look at what you need to do after I get to work if someone else hasn't helped you yet.
This mod was actually crashing the game for a while until i updated it, a long time ago.
Anyway, modding is amazing but a player needs to know the basics really. Installing mods manually is a good start to getting to know the basics.... wich is why i expect many push mod managers.
Fallout 4 is a 10/10 game if modded to taste.
