Getting rid of corpses in settlements? (Without mods/console)
Hello!

I find it quite annoying to first clear a place for a potential settlement from enemies and then having to deal with the corpses after the battle.

It seems to me that I can't get rid of dead bodies without having to use mods or the console. Of course, I could just dump the corpses anywhere, but I want to get rid of them permanently, not just push them aside.

Is there really no already built-in mechanic to make that possible?

nope - not without mods or console.

For me in survival mode, everytime I pass by the Santuary bridge i'm reminded of the gruesome battle fought with that one raider. She now lays there, nekked and I spit on her corpse when I pass.

some corpses, specially ghouls, are containers that will every time reset there place, making them anoying specialy in at croup manner and the cooperative. there is no ingame mechanic to get rid of them.
i use the Unoffical Patch UFO4P, it let this container corpses stay where u place them in most cases or just delete them after u made the settlment working, so i can get them out of the way.

normal death enemys in setlements areas will normaly decay after u set the settlement in action with a few settlers and than leave the settlement, as long they are not named npc like the covenant inhabitants. they u must pull out of u settlement. but they stay where u drop them.

open the console, click on the corpse and type,

disable, then
markfordelete

then save and reload

Pick em up like moving an item and dump them out of sight.

One game, my Coastal Cottage settlement cave was full of raider bodies.

Other game I betray Nuka World raiders i Taffington boathouse. 30 raiders + Shank and Gage was there too. Some of those bodies loot respawn... So I have Many Many Many rifles and dozen Gage armor and eyepatch :) May I need say that settlers help thenself and take weapons from corses while settlement was attacked :)

lol that's what I was going to say.

To OP: dragging them around is a pain, so imho, the best way to deal with it is as Cata says - make a virtue of it then it won't be as annoying :) Maybe stick a flag in each one too, just to hammer the point home :P
In sanctuary, I always dump the bodies in the river.

Bulding something on top of them.
The best solution if possible was the one about disbaling them I have dragged corpses like the one accross the bridge at sanctuary away many times to just have them reapear or move back that console method was the only thing that works to actually get rid of them though hiding them under construction might work as well.

The only way of permanently affecting the position of corpses in settlements is the controle where they get created. In other words dont kill the attackers and cry about the corpses thereafter. I mean you could like carry a weak weapon to lure attackers away from the settlement and kill them far away. Yeah its alot of hassle and work and effort but its the only way to permanently avoid corpses in your settlements without mods or console.

That body is spawned right from the start and keeps coming back unlike the kills you make from attacks that will vanish given time and yup... disable then markfordelete is much better and I wasnt aware of that one so ...thanks game>killah! for that as I have now purged a lot of crap that has been bugging me since I first started playing.

well DLC nearly made it, but there you need a mod for add a autobutcher too - that thing is perfect, transport one part (or the whole body) to it, throw it in and you even get some stuff out of it :P

Without Mods or Console only "legit" way i know wold be go away and let the cell respawn
I'm old enough to remember the days of Morrowind where you could "Dispose of Corpse" ;/

Everyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because Dispose of Corpse would cause them to "Loose" quest items (Even though the items are transfered to your inventory) so Bethesda idiot-proofed their games starting with Oblivion.

Thanks Normies.
