The Most Broken of Quests (please help me)
I'm currently going through the Vault-Tec storyline and I'm at the quest Vison of the Future, where you have to build the phoropter (eye examination device), which is proving to be insanely and completely broken to the point of ensuring no progress can be made in the Vault-Tec DLC. I've built the phoropter protoype and connected it to a terminal, with both powered properly and one of the two 'orignal' settlers unassigned, and when I select my parameters (better eye testing of course, because I'm not a horrible human being) it tells me to talk to Clem and Valery. The problem is that neither of them can be talked to. Clem starts working the phoropter and talking to him initiates a trade, while Valery stands a few feet away and repeats 'Now all we need is a volunter for the phoropter' infinitely. Nothing else happens, ever. I've tried sleeping for between one hour to a full day to no effect, waiting there for ten minutes and unassigning all my settlers, none of which having any effect. Killing Valery causes the quest to fail although the phoropter prototype continues to exist (and cannot be destroyed, nor clem unassigned from it) meaning that no further vault-tec quests activate. Using sqs to complete the quest in console completes the quest and has the same results, with Valery repeating her stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ line instead of giving the next quest forever.

Please help. How do I fix this?

Try this:

Walk outside the vault then open console and type this:
Setstage DLC06E03 200

For the setstage command to work you have to reload the area. This is why you went outside.

Does not work. Have tried saving and loading multiple times. Upon rebooting FO4 gave me the pleasant loading gift of a CTD when trying to exitsave.

Setting the stage to 500 (turning in the quest) finally worked. Thank you.
You need more settlers, and you need to build it somewhere they can "path" to it. Having a complex vault is a ♥♥♥♥♥ for those tasks.. A random settler should be told to sit in the chair and voila.

My vault is a precious and beautiful flower. Please do not bully it.

Did it skip over the option to talk to the vault chick and try to convince her you were there to help? Or did it jsut assume you pissed her off and she left the vault?

The quest uses Clem, The Overseer, and the female recruit. It has nothingto do with random settlers you gain.

Skipped over it, no one left the Vault.

That is good to hear then. Ya skipping stages is never a good idea. As it can skip over such decisions and cause you problems later. You are always best off trying to set your current stage or previous stage first, then if neither works you proceed to the next.
