Getting started in FROST + More Questions
Hi, thought I'd give FROST a try.
I knew it would be hard, but this doesn't seem right.
The first enemies I am encountering are around half a dozen of people in Scollay Square. They have laser guns, swords and torches. I can't even land a hit. All I have is the lead pipe from the spawn room. Everything onehits me. Hitting someone with a lead pipe damages them for about 10% of their HP.

Is this right? Am I doing something wrong? How do I make it easier on myself?

Edit: Are there any underground homes or settlements I can store my stuff at? Settling over ground isn't really viable due to radiation. I am getting overloaded with valuable stuff, and I don't want to drop it.

Yes, look at the "changelog gameplay" section in the mod description on the nexus page for the mod. Melee is severely nerfed at level one. And the author of the mod does say: "get gud".

In other words, work on getting perks, sneaking around at first, etc.

I have yet to try the mod, but my friends have tried it, and they love it. Just use caution and get to level 3 from what i understand, with a few essential perks.

I'm going to try it out tomorrow. Let me know how it goes. :)

Along the same vein: I was just playing fallout 4 recently on a very hard run with the "very hard is old survival" mod, which is excellent by the way. But seem to reallly miss the difficulty level of survival and hardcore gaming in general. Especially with longer play sessions, it's just too easy and boring to go back to a game that I can kill and get away with everything.

So, after deciding here, I am going to use this Frost mod with Pilgrim mod, and some other mods on the bottom of the Frost mod page, to really ramp up the game mode. When you think about a world like fallout, where everyone is out to get you, and you are weak and pathetic trapped in a cell, It just adds so much to the realism of death around the corner.

Anyways, good luck on your frost run. I'm sure you'll find a way to rule your surroundings.

And remember, just concentrate on a little bit at a time, and eventually things will open up. They always do.
You aren't meant to kill every enemy you come across, especially in the beginning. The sanity mechanic actively discourages that. There are multiple ways to go from the spawn room, if one way is blocked by enemies, try another one.
I usually stick to tunnels which are controlled by the metro federation at first and only get into fights with humans if absolutely necessary. If you get your hands on some explosives you can try to blow up some of their guards and steal their handmade rifles, combat shouldn't be too difficult after that.

Oh okay, so just leave them alone until I can take them on. Guess that's the more logical way to play. I tried taking them on, but it was REALLY hard. Onehit, and Fallout 4 can be wonky when it comes to blocking. I guess I'll just explore before going back there.

I'll stop for today, it's past 1am.
Situation update: I took a few tunnels, killed three people, which gave me a chinese electrified sword.
Used that to suprise attack some guy in a Bison helmet, took his railway gun and killed their companion.
I have decent plate armor, a long combat rifle, a railway rifle, and plenty of ammo for each. Things are looking up.

I actually had a question about FROST that I was about to make a thread for but I figure I may as well ask here.

Is Frost on bethesda.net? If not, are they planning to make a beth.net iteration?

I don't know, never used Bethesda.net. I would imagine not. Workshops and things like that tend to have a "size limit", and although FROST is only 650MB, that still is pretty big. You can look for it though.

One question, Why? For console? Because if not, I seriously recommend ditching Beth.net for NMM.
Edit: Just checked, doesn't look like it.
