In addition the warehouse items do make it easier to do multi-story buildings (though with less options in wall variation) from the DLC

If not using horizon the modder is releasing the "Architect" side of horizon as a standalone mod if patient.

EDIT: Sorry just saw the no mods in title, my bad, ignore this and play ya vanilla.
And beware if you share that building with your settlers and try to reach your armor crafting station... but mama murphy stands on the stairs and telling you... no mor chems, nor more third and and no passing by her to the next level...
Another reason I like architect as pathfinding was added to these buildings.
Not using mods at all I found I had the most luck with pathfinding in general using the vault 88 dlc tilesets but my settlements started to look more like mars colony prefabs rather than wasteland settlements.
