Anyone else prefer the old style of graphics ?
If taken at face value, fallout 4 looks pretty good. The fog, the sky, the plants. Then you remember that it’s fallout. Roughly 200 years before billions died in a nuclear holocaust, yet the world in this game is just filled with cheery and bright blues, reds, greens, and oranges.

Don’t get me wrong, the quality of the graphics are one of the few things that were done properly on this game, but the style is just off. Sure there’s rust, and whatnot but it just doesn’t make sense.

They should’ve just taken the style from the other fallouts, made a pretty but proper pallet to reflect the hell hole the wasteland is, without going over board. The graphical designers could’ve done just as good of work if not better with that style, and it would’ve made sense.

Anyone else feel that way?

I like the apocolyptic styles or even the drabness in old Skyrim but many don't and try to mod it out of both the current and prior games, some go as far to add more green. Beth couldn't win either way on style choice.

From a rationale standpoint there are anecedotes of "hope"-- be it new growth, fresh produce and so on, so maybe the color reflects that. Also Boston wasn't hit nearly as bad as the West Coast to my understanding. I thought radiation would take longer to clear, but I'm not an expert on the topic.

That said it does rain a lot and it is dark and cloudy a LOT of the time. Also, making the game drab is rather simple, compared to adding brightness and not overdoing the bloom.

SweetFX, Reshade et al are common solutions used by players of all types of games to adjust color to taste and doesn't require significant modding knowledge either. Much hardware has similar capability to to remove vibrancy, adjust gamma and so on.

Yep... a lot actually... failed to deliver on the immersion bigtime. Especially if you expect the "Fallout Experience".

There is a mod that attempts to recreate the style of the old Fallout games. I think you'll like it.

Pretty much this. I personally didn't mind the drabness of Fallout 3 or the orange tint of New Vegas. Kinda gave it it's own distinct flavor, and a feeling of desolation and dirty-ness to the world. But whatever Bethesda does, they're almost always in a damned if I do, damned if I don't position.

This game is too colorful in some parts, that is to some people not very post nuclear world at all, but it was 200 years AFTER the war, not before
