Military sniper build.
So I was thinking of making a military sniper build. But as starting stats, I always make the same mistakes and try to balance characters too evenly. Any ideas on what I should put my starting special point into?

Also thinking of either the Cage Armor/Spike Armor look or the Raider armors.

Keep in mind, I play ONLY vanilla FO4 and have NO DLC.

Edit- I should also say that I know about teh hunting rifle at College Square so that's an easy start too.

Depends whether you VATS snipe or manually snipe.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE using VATS. Only if I absolutly need to.

For a classic single shot sniper build Rifleman and Ninja are basically mandatory, and Sneak while not strictly necessary is a great help too. A few points in those basically makes you unstoppable. You'll have to decide whether you will be building your own mod parts or scavenging them from loot and vendors.

Hunting rifle is ok I suppose, but the suppressed bolt acton pipe gun sold by Trudy is arguably more useful early on. Later on a combat or assault is usually better even for sniping, of course the Overseer's Guardian can be picked up very early.....

To maximise damage to its absolute then you need to take the following skills in the following order. Any One of these three ways will do:-

1)"Ninja" (Agl 7 min) perk to lvl 3.. Then get Deacons companion perk "Cloak and Dagger" then "Mister Sandman" (Agl 4 min) Perk to lvl 3.

Or.

2) and 3) Get Deacons Companion Perk "Cloak and Dagger" first then Either "Ninja" or "Mister sandman" to lvl 3 next then "Ninja" or "Mister sandman" to lvl 3 last. (Agl min 4 for Mister Sandman and Agl min 7 for Ninja)

Then there are these other perks:-

"Bloody Mess" (Lck 3 Min) perk also boosts damage as does "Lady Killer/ Black Widow" ( Cha 2 min) vs the opposite sex.

"Sniper" (Per 8 min) is obvious for a sniper build, up to you for "Sneak" (Agl 3 Min) but snipers do use Gilly Suits :)

"Rifleman" (Per 2 Min) perk would be the classic sniper build (and you will get the best out of the Gauss rifle from it) but its possible to make a fully auto sniper with "Commando" (Agl 2 min) perk. I have and in close quarter situations that will happen the commando perk is more useful. Just learn to shoot three round bursts so the recoil does not get away from you.

If travelling without a companion or just with Dogmeat get Lone Wanderer (Cha 3 min) to lvl 3 for more damage boost.

"Gun Nut" Perk (INT 3 min) unless you are just going to buy/ scrounge mods is usefull and/ or "Science" (Int 6 min) if you want to make an energy weapon sniper

Personnally I always take "Demolition Expert" (Per 5 min) as Mines protect my flanks/ rear better than any companion does :) (and if you make a commando sniper build Pray and Spray or similar weapon is even more usefull after the enemies know where you are :) )

Ok you want a military sniper build. That is at least PER 2(1), INT 6(5) and AGL 7(6), maybe LCK 3(2).

What do you want for the rest of your stats? What other parts to the military build would you like?

It was the reason I posted the Special stat requirements for each of the perks. So it was easy to work out.

The stats above listed would be

Str not needed. (But note that Armourer is on this stat at str 3!)
Per min 8 (its the Sniper perk that puts this high)
End not needed (hp is for casuals, especially if you take sneak)
Cha min 2 or 3.
Int min 6 (only 6 if you want the science perk but its not absolutly needed)
Agl min 7( ninja puts this high)
Lck min 3

Which works out at 28 or 29 stat points (depending on choice of Cha min.)... But to be honest you can drop some of the higher ones to be put up later with Bobbleheads, Special book or levels so you have more perk options that are useful but not Sniper build specific, what you start with is not as important now.

yeah so what you're gunna want to do is tunnel all your points into STR and PER, grab Gun Bash and then when you're about to snipe a fool, you need to Gun Bash AS you take the shot, and with such a high STR, the bullet will accelerate at least 4x faster, meaning you can get those sick collats for your Very Easy Difficulty montage.

now, do be aware, shooting while gun bashing is no easy feat. its a difficult task, aiming your sight while you gun bash your bullet forward! but with 10 perceptions, it aint a challenge

I made a military gunner build that’s flexible for all weapons.

Invest your special like this
S 7 P 8 E 3 C 2 I 3 A 3 L 2
His talents in other areas are limited
Garbage at speech checks
Can’t hack stronger terminals right off the bat
generaly can shoot accurately in vats but can’t shoot very often but if your not a vats player this shouldn’t be an issue.

This build was probably my 2nd most fun build I have made mainly because this build could venture to dangerous areas at a fairly low level.

Sorry to bring this back up but I have an update on the build so far.

SPECIAL setup started as the following
S- 1+0
P- 1+7
E- 1+0
C- 1+2
I- 1+5
A- 1+6
L- 1+2

As suggested.

Currently Lv 18 using Cage Armor, hopefully soon to find the helmeted variant.
And already have found an Explosive Hunting Rifle and an Plasma Infised Combat Shotgun. Both modded to the highest I can do with rank 2 Gun Nut.

Having a blast (pun HIGHLY intended). Thanks for that help before. Now if I can only find that elusive Explosive Minigun or Explosive Assault Rifle.....
