Every robot you've got living/caravaning in your settlement has 50% happiness bringing down your average citizen happiness.

Make sure everyone has a job. Idle settlers are unhappy settlers.

The best use for bots IS on caravan duty. The trick is to move them all to a central hub location (Mechanist lair if you've got it, Starlight Drivein if you don't) and have them connect from there to each settlement.

Build cat and dog traps, they both raise happiness (dogs raise defense, too). Have at least one bar per settlement, as high-level as you can place. Build some potted plants, those boost happiness.

I think that having more beds than residents can also drop the happiness a bit.

My suggestion to you would be to add the Settlement Management System mod, and place a Vault-Tec terminal in each settlment. The VT terminal does one thing a wee bit easier than SMS does, but SMS can help you figure out what the problem is.

the Expert on settlement happiness is Oxhorn on yourube. Check his videos and also the spreadsheet he made to plug in your settlement's population and stats.

Bars are a big source of happiness. Dogs and cats provide a small amount, but this is the first I have heard of potted plants.

have fun

You can have a robot there. Poobah left out the important part.

The happiness of a settlement is an average of all the individual settler's happiness. So if you have 9 settlers and one is a robot then that average of 50 for a robot is absorbed (8x80+50/9 (80 being an example of happiness provided.) So in the end you aint really going to lose alot of happiness unless you have a lot of robots.

Also every new settler starts at 50 happiness then over time gains happiness according to the stats of the settlement.

Those are the plants from the CC home decor package, rugs also give a point as well. The CC arcade machines give 2 points each.

This is false. Idle settlers do absolutely nothing except if you have four you settlement stops recruiting settlers. There is a trick to avoid that because settlers do not get an idle flag until you visit the settlement.

There is some bugs that affect happiness, you can see these when they occur when the stats in your pipboy are wrong.

Unless you are specifically going for the 100% happiness achievement it is okay to ignore happiness as it doesn't do anything worthwhile. I understand the urge to min/max and I still pop a couple slot machines in my settlements to give them a boost even though it is pointless.

Not pointless.

Happiness affects both food production and food consumption.

It also affects the recruiting chance for another settler.

As I said, nothing worthwhile. Settlements are a place to save and craft and that's about the end of their usefulness.

No, you said pointless. As in there was no point in bothering with it. Which was a false fact.

Now whether or not it is worth doing is a personal opinion.

I said happiness does nothing worthwhile. I said adding slot machines was pointless. It's all up there above you.

So in other words, you posting it is not worthwile makes your posts about it pointless :P

Everything you have feelings about is a personal opinion, feel free to spend as much or as little effort on them as you like. It is a game after all.

If you're going for Benevolent Leader (100% settlement happiness), there are a few ways you can go about it.

https://www.trueachievements.com/a209690/benevolent-leader-achievement

^guides & stuff here

I just got this achievement the other day and, while I didn't use any of the guides, I learned a few neat tricks from them:

1) there are happiness-producing objects in build mode (stores, cat & gorilla cages, fitness objects, etc); if you have the Vault-Tec workshop DLC, you can also add slot machines, a soda fountain, and a phoropter.

2) keep your defense at 100 or higher;

3) make sure that your settlers are all assigned to something (hard work is happy work, after all);

4) do not fast-travel to or from Sanctuary Hills, as doing so resets the happiness meter. I use Red Rocket as my fast-travel point and go home on foot from there.

Good luck!

Now that I was not aware of, is there information supportng this anywhere?

Someone get me a shovel becaus ethe brahminshit is getting deep.

False. He jsut need to maintain the safety rating for happiness to be unaffected. Food+Water= Defense easy formula for maintaining happiness by not screwing up the safety rating.

Again. This is a brahminshit rumor people like you are circulating. Idle settlers do not afftect happiness. I already explained this once before in this topic but of course you just skipped it. Maybe if you read topics first you might learn something.

Wtf kind of brahminshit is that? Fast travel has nothing to do with happiness.

If you are going to hand out advice and info, you should probbaly do some research and make sure it is true first. The game has bene out for THREE years there is no new stuff to discover and all the info on the game is out there already, you just need to look for it.

There is info supporting it. There is also info supporting he is wrong. I didnt want to get into earlier in great detail. Since someone said something beofre I could call it brahminshit theories I will answer in more detail.

There is an issue that can occur with the cell system and settlements partially loading then adjust settlement data according to what was loaded. That is what can affect happiness because water, food, bed, and defense items can "disappear." Fast traveling has nothing to do with it because it can happen just walking around manually. If anything fast traveling can help avoid the issue provided you land in the right spots.

The problem with his "advice" is by fast traveling to Red Rocket first you can actually cause a cell issue partially loading Sanctuary. Basically if you are standing in Red Rocket the back two cells of Sanctuary (everything north and northeast of the garden behind the yellow house) to not load.
