What is the point of the automatic laser musket?
Apart from novelty of course. The whole purpose of the laser musket is to be a single fire weapon that can put out one large chunk of damage rather than several short bursts. So when you recieve an automatic laser musket that can't even be modded without using glitches, what exactly is the point of using it when you have automatic laser rifles that do the same thing but better? This has been bugging me for a while. :P

It looks cool. Also, it just works.

Give it to your highest-level NPC Minuteman and watch them cut down entire waves of enemies.

literally just novelty tbh. it's a shame they only work for the player, though, because they would have been great to give to minutemen guards.

unfortunately it doesnt work on npc's

Unfortunately for NPCs there is no real point to a laser musket, just because they only use the single shot mode which eliminates the awesomeness of what they can do - in that context they're just a slow laser rifle.

For the PC of course, the laser musket is an inexpensive uberweapon that can punch through resistance like a knife through but, outperforms the Gauss Rifle until level 39, and uses an inexpensive easily obtained ammo. A Two-Shot laser musket can take down a Behemoth with a single headshot.

It's more about it being common than it being inexpensive. Crank it more than three times (to get the best damage), and you're spending more on each shot than you would with the gauss rifle.

instigating is far superior to two shot tbh, can use that even beyond the gauss rifle

Instigating is definitely better for a sniper-type weapon that hits the each enemy with a powerful, individual shot.

Things like Wounding are better for rapid-fire, and Two Shot is the best all-rounder.

yeah i just meant on the Laser Musket in particular, two shot is far, far less useful because it only does base damage afaik

Spoken like someone who's never tried it.

Automatic Musket is much better, because you can exploit how the AI's accuracy is calculated. Put a long scope and a focuser on it, tell me a Gatling Laser is even 10% as good for an NPC.

did they change it through a patch? because i could swear that the automatic laser musket was disabled as a weapon for NPC's

also NPC's don't use scopes, afaik they hip fire their weapons 100% of the time

A modded. gatling laser, charging barrels, superior rate of fire, beam focuser. No i'm pretty well sure a gatling laser is more badass than a novelty laser rifle with a crank on it. :demoticon:

There's always the DLC arena stuff if anyone wants to deliberately test it out. Give each weapon to an NPC, fit them out with otherwise identical equipment, and have the two fight it out.
