How does this look for my Sentinel build?
Having my female survivor do a BoS Sentinel build on Survival. Though still having a little trouble ignoring the blasted lawyer backstory Nora starts out with. Cause I want my female character to have military training prior to Vault 111. Maybe someone give me some advice on that. I know it'd be easier with Nate but I don't want to play as him.

This is what I was thinking for my Sentinel starting out as she will wield Energy rifles, and heavy weapons. She won't be using VATs at all either or little as possible.

Strength: 5 (I think I only really need 5 for Heavy Gunner unless I want Pain Train)
Perception: 1 (+1 from bobblehead for Rifleman)
Endurance: 9
Charisma: 1
Intelligence: 9 (Nuclear Physicist)
Agility: 1
Luck: 2 (had this at one but I think Scrounger needs to be in this build)

Due to the ammo drop rates in fallout 4 and the weight of ammo, I sort of like automatic weapons so you can burn thru the ammo as it drops. on survival mode an automatic pipe rifle will murder pretty well especially if you can get a legendary effect on it. for a long time.

had an pipe rifle with explosive modifier on it. was devestating.

you get the never ending ammo mod from university point you get an automatic laser rifle....you can be a gatling laser.

or I suppose you could make it a sniper barrel and just shoot with it.

you do as you please. I'm just saying Automatics are really the way to go.

The Start Me Up mod can give you a more blank slate to imagine your own backstory. One option is to start as a random person that wakes up from the pod. There was a mix up and Nora was placed in a different pod. So you are not Nora. The mod has a lot of other ways to start but I have no idea if one of them is a slodier.

Could probably start as a new recruit as I can see in the mod even. How is start me up. Is it same as alternate start from Skyrim? Cause so much of the main character backstory is tied into the main quest.

It is not as 'open world' as Skyrim. At times it does still feel forced because of the limitations of the main story. For instance, when you visit Diamond City everyone is trying to force your conversation into the 'see Valentine' stage to end chapter one. But the mod can completly wipe the baby story in the beginning, depending on your start. You must visit Vault 111 and 'find' a holotape to know about the baby. Before you find the tape, Valentine will want you to tell him your story but you just say 'I have nothing to report yet'. That also feels forced but its the best the author could do.

9 in endurance seems like a bit overkilll, whats the point in that?

Think what I could do is roleplay my FSS backstory that she did a tour of combat in the military to pay for law school. Then eventually worked for JAG before being honorably discharged. She then started practicing civilian law till she had to take maternity leave when Shaun is born. Then when she awakens joins the Brotherhood as she starts to share their POV.

Well it is on Survival mode and she is going to be more of a tank build as her primary gear is the T-60. I can drop it down and put it somewhere else. Why I asked for advice.

Had planned on 7 str and 7 endurance but not sure if I need to go past 5-6 strength as Heavy Gunner and Strong back is all I need. Pain Train would be nice but not sure if it’d be worth it.

I would at least try and get STR to 7 for the Steady Aim perk.

Maybe I should stick with my 7-1-7-1-9-1-2 Special then.

Do you plan to get the strength and intelligence bobbleheads or do you prefer to use heavy guns and power armour straight away? Also the Nuclear Physicist perk is most effective after the third rank.

I like to use them right away. Also as I’m in survival doubt I could get those 2 bobble heads right away. Basically started those stats with my Sentinel last night. Think I’ll point the your special book point into Aglity for Commando.

Dont you need 3 perception for rifleman?

Only 2 is needed for rilfeman. So the bobble head is all I need for perception.

What Heavy guns are worth using? I mean on survival each missle is 1.5 lbs. I use them when I find them in the field. but they are so damn heavy I drop the ammo in front of my character and use them like a long bow user might use arrows. the fat man ammo is what 4 weight per round?

Anyways i recommend you have 6 cha and 7 INT take chemist and craft jet fuel to level up dramatically, once you level up you can dump points wherever. take aquaboy and swim around I think you can get to bunker hill from grey garden thru the water. and not be too far from underworld and probably diamond city and vault 81.

If you want to be a beast, consider taking drugs, psycho buff is really strong.

Psychobuff, Fury and Yaoi Gaoi soup with an extended ripper is going to make things die. useful vs things that want to melee you like ghouls and whatever. works fine in power armor. if you get the melee perks it disarms things you get to melee range of and rapidly home runs them for those buildings where its something of a close encounter.

so I'd say Melee and automatics are fine. a basic ripper is fine. you can pick one up in west everett estates.

My suggestions:

Ditch the END, get enough for Life Giver if you want to play easy mode. Any more than that is overkill when wearing Power Armor.

You may also want a few points into Charisma for Lone Wanderer. It will help with carrying fusion cores and ammo for the heavy weapons, not to mention the damage reduction and eventual damage boost.

I personally prefer automatic rifles when playing without VATS (they also have a more "military" feel to them imo), even on Survival you should be able to carry more ammo than you need if you are wearing Power Armor (particularly if you have Lone Wanderer or Strong Back).

One of the big flaws of the game is needed 6 CHR in order to build crafting stations which I have found essential when playing Power Armor builds. Without easy access to Power Armor stations you may be running around in destroyed armor a lot. You could always use a mod to add the perk but if you want to play clean you may find investing in CHR removes some of the annoying headaches of running back to repair, particularly if you are playing on Survival with no fast travel. It doesn't make it easier, just less annoying.

I've never found Scrounger to be worth a damn, definately don't count on it for heavy weapon ammo as it will never get you even close to enough to use.

Endurance is great for the ghoulish perk and adamantium skeleton if you're not using any drugs , chems or stimpack.
