Honestly I dont think he even had a handful of lines for the main story line.
I think a lot of that had to do with the fact they catered to the people that would not bring him along. If ya wanna find out how Nick interacts then gee maybe bring him along DUH.
Literally there is no super secret origin story thing you are going to miss by not bringing him along.
How do you know he's not there? What I'm saying is I couldn't see him anywhere at first. I occassionally heard him while walking around. I left and came back or went out into the woods and he showed up.
Since the game pushes another companion on you from the near start I don't think it's clear whom the player should bring and either/or or none is fine. Though he doesn't say a lot what is learned by the PC and Nick is revealing and there is a bit of after dlc/quest dialog. I think it would have been nice to have a bit more but that would cause the DLC to nearly rely on having a select companion.
Maybe they did cater to the crowd who thinks you can kill everyone and have the Raiders build a teleport but they could just leave it open to be somewhat consistent in their approach. Bethesda always seem to be rather nuanced in their approach except when it comes to endings and explosions.
When i go to the inside the agency with him Nick is busy forever and it will dont follow you anywhere forever, the solution is to leave Nick outside the agency and take the quest, after it will act normal with all the new dialogues. this bug is triggered after you do "The Glided Grasshooper" before Far Harbor DLC. Sad but im happy i dont progressed much in the dlc after is discovered this.
I see. I haven't done the Grasshooper quest yet, though it is active in the PipBoy. If the bug is reproduced it's good you found a solution, if not it's still good you found a solution.
