though what do you mean "nothing happens" did you talk to ellie?
as for the console, giving yourself weapons and the like is pretty much ok, but you mess around with the console to much is a sure fire way to bug your game out eventually, and quite frankly beth games don't need any help to begin with
I think you kinda screwed yourself by talking to Ellie though. You have to go rescue Nick then you should be able to go there without him.
Worst case scenario dump Nick at the docks once you get there.
I did Far Harbor without Nick first. The next time through I brought Nick along and the "additional content" with him there was really disappointing.
Just go northeast until you're on the beach. Follow it north until you get to Nakano's house. Don't need Nick to go there; been there plenty of times with other companions. I think the first time was when Scribe Haylen sent me to retrieve a piece of tech that was located in Far Harbor..
If I remember right after rescuing Nick you need to exit Diamond City and go out near where Cricket is by the gate. Then that will start the Far Harbor.
You can't just walk along the shoreline until reaching the Nakano house? Just walk on the beach past those ghouls, going NE until the beach curves north again. Not through the hills though, that's where I've run into the "you can't go that way" message.
I had same problem recently when trying a new mod out, Summertime Overhaul. So sounds like a mod is over writing the area and putting the none DLC border back.
The first time I did it, I didn't have Nick Valentine with me either.
He has nothing to do with it, except for some expanded dialogue options.
When you follow the beach, there's no problem. When you climb in the rocks you get the "You can't go that way" warning. I've never seen the beach path blocked at any point. Not sure what your issue might be, but it has nothing to do with your companion.
As for getting to the Nakano residence , I had the same problem . I fixed it by installing the mod
''Mo Borders'' (on Nexus) . Also works for the Nuka-World DLC .
It's definately a mod issue I haven't been able to sort out , and while ''No borders'' still works so I'm in no hurry to find out .
The "can't go there" is just you hitting the map edge, same as any map edge. Just skirt the map edge. You have to get nearly into the surf at points.
You might even be able to ignore them completely and just go get the boat if you know where to look for the boat keys etc. I haven't tried that.
