Stashed items disappearing
Playing Survival mode on my first playthrough of Fallout 4 and on my way to the Corvega Assembly Plant I took out a small group of raiders (The ones near the pool and the power armoured brute on the rooftop). Having put them to sleep I decided to stash most of their weapons and (power) armour into one of the explosive boxes near the beds.

I get to Corvega and after (many) attempts manage to completely clear it out and stack up a large stash of loot. It has taken many real-life hours but only around 4 hours that were actually saved. Thinking myself a job well done and having scavanged and looted the whole site, stashing them all into one locker, I decide to head home and pass-by my first loot stash. As I arrive the dead bodies are still present from the original raiders I killed by lo and behold the explosive chest I had stashed my loot had reset! It only contained a few hand grenades and a molotov.

I proceeded to quit the game and head straight here.

First question: Why did this happen? The bodies were still present so it wasn't like the cell had reset (Which I had factored in, I usually used this tactic in Skyrim when there was simply too much good loot to leave behind), any way I can prevent this from happening in the future?

Second question: Will the stash I've now left back in the Corvega Assembly Plant be safe? Is there any way I can get the whole stash back to my home (even if it means catarpillar crawling all of it at once container by container) if walking too far away for too long will cause it to reset?

Obviously I don't want to find out through trial and error as it IS survival and such experiments would be very difficult...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :D

As I know loot placed in box by yourself can dissapear sometimes, yes. And you can do nothing about it.I think only chance to not to lose it - place it in wokbenches (there is an weapon, armor and power armor workbenches in Red Rocket in Lexington. Try to stash loot there and see if it will vanish. Also I have a trick for ya. You can break power armor parts on dead body while it on them as equiped items. After breaking PA parts you can take them with yourself and they will weigh 0 in inventory. Really chepest way to bring PA like this from raiders and gunners to your base of operation.

1. Container and cell resets are highly inconsistent and very buggy in this game (shocker, I know). For example you can clear out Cutler's Bend, and then wander back and forth in and out of the cell to loot the steamer trunk over and over again (in addition to the chem boxes and all the loose items) - it will all reset immediately whenever the cell is unloaded. The enemies meanwhile are on a standard cell reset timer and won't respawn, whilst the mirelurk eggs will reset with the containers and loot (and will still spawn hatchlings). Don't ask why any of this is the case, I have no idea.

You can prevent it from happening by assuming that any random container in any random cell will potentially reset the moment the cell gets unloaded. This is dramatic as most containers in the game won't behave this way, but any of them could potentially be one of those that does.

2. Maybe. I don't know offhand and you typically won't know without testing. Grab all your crap, use one of the mattresses to save, then stash it and see how you go. Or blow an arm off one of the Raiders in the external worldspace, dump all your junk on the body, and then run back home carrying the dismembered arm which you can then loot.

Thanks for the advice lads, I think I'll try a few of those out. Kinda sucks that stash despawning is a thing though... any mods online that can fix that?

Containers appear to have different reset timers than their cells in a lot of cases. This may be because leveled-list containers are generating contents from a list that is independt of the cell. But that's just a theory.

Stash your stuff in a "wild workstation."

Any work station (weapons, armor, power armor, etc) does not have an inventory reset if the cell resets.

Any other type of container is subject to a cell reset. The same with jsut dropping it on the ground. I have had items I dropped on the ground despawn, not weapons though.

I don't think dropped items despawn, I think they clip through the plane. I've never had something drop disappear from reset. I have however, had things fall through level geometry, only to reappear later.

I've tested this, not intentionally, but in unmarked places I explore, I drop teddy bears so I know I've been there.

Yeah I drop all sort sof stuff it rarely ever disappears. However since it has a chance to disappear I aint about to run around suggesting people jsut drop it on the ground. Especially considering some cells can reset the moment you leave.

Like you said could be a physics thing where it fell through the ground, or got punted somewhere.

The work station thing does work though. When I did Far Harbor I preload a bunch of stuff and dumped it into the power amror station. I did almost the whole quest line before I emptied it into a settlement I gained on the island.

You can also use bodies (things you have killed, not dead bodies) as 'safe for a good while' containers
Stuff you put there will stay there until the body depops
Bodies take a lot of time to depop

Ya I would not trust that. I stuff things back into corpses all the time. Stuff I didnt mean to pick up, liek boards and missles. Those corpses still despawn by the next time I come around.

I'm new to the game and thought I was loosing my mind. I've put stuff in the transfer at many locations only to come back to sanctuary and not find any....very annoying!

Just In case some ( or maybe All ) of you don't know about this , Never mind the raiders , your settlers will pretty much steal everything from containers . especially weapons and ammo . The only things the settlers don't steal from is maniquins ( those things you normally
put your clothes / armour on ) , and from what I've heard on these forums , you can apparently store EVERYTHING ( including weapons ) on / in those maniquins . Also DO NOT
leave fusion cores in your power armour or the settlers will get in them and leave anywhere
when the fusion run out of power .

Those wanting to lock '' their stash '' , I've been using the mod '' lock Your Containers N Doors '' , found on Nexus . It seems to keep '' my stash '' out of their hands , but I also have the mod '' NSA - No settlement Attacks '' so I don't know if the settlers will break into your containers lockers if raiders attack .

Enemy territory is not a stash place for YOU.
Junk containers remain junk containers and once you leave an area, your items are gone, once they reset, they get refilled with junk. Only stash in settlements you own.

THANKS! I finally understand!

You can use workstations, like weapon benches, armor tables, power armor stations, chemistry stations, etc. Those are immune to a cell reset so you will not lose your stuff to a reset.

However any weapons, food, aid items, and ammo stored in them can be stolen by NPC in combat near them.
