Tried downloading the F4SE installer

First, Norton decided it was a risk and started removing it, and now Windows Defender (which I didn’t even know I had) is saying the installer might put my PC at risk. I dunno what to do now. Any help with be appreciated

Don't download the installer, just the zip file. Watch the video:

set it as an exemption in norton and defender if they are crying foul , and it is better to not use the installer .
remember to remove the old f4se .dll's and the .exe , if you dont it wont work

I got to the part where you add it to NMM, but ive tried everything and I can't add it

Defender just whines. It should allow you to install the file. If it doesn't then go to your Defender App & Browser settings, to toggle SmartScreen off.

In any case, use archive instead.

it's not hard , remove old f4se .dll's and the .exe .
remove the shortcut if you made one
open the new f4se zip with 7zip or what ever
extract the .dll's and the .exe to the games main folder
start the game with the normal launcher
f4se now knows what to hook into
you can now launch from f4se .
up date the mods that require f4se , like place anywhere , mcm

Only because it comes as pre-installed bloatware on most mainstream built pc's.

Op should uninstall its useless. I would even go as far to say it causes more problems then it does good.
