Weird Black Shadows in Fog?

I'm guessing you have a mod issue or GPU issue. Try reinstalling/updating your GPU drivers.


There's an issue that is similar to yours but, only when it rains, not fog. You can try the fix, but it may not help with fog. First time I've seen your exact issue. Try going to the game's Options menu, then Advanced and uncheck the box for "Wetness". As I said, this fix is for a graphics problems when it rains.

Edit; Had a thought. Also, while you're in the Options, Advanced menu, try setting Ambient Occlusion to HBAO+. That is assuming you have an Nvidia card.

Thanks for the input! Tried messing around with both, unfortunately neither seemed to make it go away. Re-installed my weather mods also and ELFX just in case something was bugged there. No idea why this would be happening... Any time it fogs, black shadows everywhere

Sorry that didn't help. I would think it has to be a mod issue now. You could try uninstalling your weather mods again. Then go to Documents/My Games/Fallout 4. Delete the Fallout4.ini and the Fallout4Prefs.ini. Do not delete the Fallout4Custom.ini. Then verify the integrity of the game files and launch the game from your Steam library[not F4SE]. That will create new .ini's and might fix the problem.

I have no ENB's, nor do I know anything about them. But, if you use one, make sure it's configured correctly.

Well, it validated 1 file. Installing weather related mods one by one to see if I can find a conflict somewhere

Never did, unfortunately. Seems like Vivid Weathers fog causes this. Found reports on that mod's page also, but no solutions. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to happen much, but it's still very annoying.

I have a modded game with NAC and I get a similar bug when it rains at night time. Weird black spots. What do I do then?

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't online for a while. Anyway, the bug, at least on our end, is caused by a Conflict of the mods Darker Nights, Vivd Weathers, and True Storms. The black bug shows up when there is a thick fog.

Since I don't use NAC, I don't know how to fix your specific bug, however, I can advise you to check for any compatability patches for NAC and Darker Nights.
