If you do not wish to join the BOS than simply do not say yes to Danse. Depending on future faction choices you may be at odds with the BOS in the future.
Following in polite circles is called ranting. You may want to stop reading here.
No matter what you do, you will not avoid having them drop Power armor idiots around you to steal your kills, knock srap and matierals all willy nilly, annoy you with their vertibird engines and when destroyed (by others or yourself) aim the wreckage at you (WITHOUT FAIL, SERIOUSLY. If a vertibird goes down, it's coming at you).
Obviously, a non member wont be allowed to board the Prydwen
Note that you can join all factions
Even RP wise, it makes sense to 'join' them all, if only to get an educated guess about what their view and ideology is from the inside
Later on, you will have to decide which ones you really side with
Thank you, thats what I was looking for :)
