Beware of Exitsave

Exit save seems a cool feature, also a way to get around the restrictions on saves in Survival mode. Don't rely on it, try to save some other way before exiting the game. The way it works, when you load the game the exitsave immediately gets erased. It's no longer there if you would like to go back to it, furthermore, if your game should crash or something, the exitsave will no longer be there next time. You will be sent to the previous non-exitsave you had. Just learned this the hard way.

Perhaps I knew it at sometime but I had forgotten, haven't played survival for a long time, I fell into the habit of just quitting confident in my "save". Then my computer rebooted and I was sent waaay back in time...

take it a step further and minimize fallout bugs and occasional crashes -- install no sleep till bedtime mod by Gopher.

Or, Survial Unlocker, which allows full saves and quick saves.

The exitsave in Survival is more a 'long' pause than a save
Once you are back into the game, it is removed

The only true saves you have are the bed ones

I actually haven't had Exit Save flake out on me since like August last year. It used to flake out like all the time though.

I just use the animated smoking mod.

you stop and have a cigarette or cigar or joint which saves the game. It's not too cheaty becaus eyou have to stop and physically smoke and also you get addicted which has neg effects if you don't smoke for too long etc and you have to loot them so it all balances out.

that and sleeping is the only way i save in survival

alt+f4 will exit without the exit save overwriting

Opening pip-boy before quitting will also exit without save overwriting.

I think the issue wasn't that, but how game removes the exit save in Survival mode, preventing you from loading it again.

I like to play hardcore survival and not be too cheaty so I found this to be a pretty good & immersive way to get around the no save. Normally I'd be okay with just saving while sleeping but with it being a Bethesda game I don't trust it not to freeze or crash.

This is a very elegant solution. I have a profound dislike of tobacco for personal reasons, however if my character drinks and gets high on chems (not things that I approve too much ITRW either) well I might reconsider my view. Heck, if the world's gone to pieces and the water is radioactive who cares if my character smokes.

does it work on survival? it says specifically works with hardcore features but idk what hardcore features are lol
