Which quest is the last quest to decide my faction (no end game spoilers please)
So I'm currently at the "The Molecular Level" quest..

I've done some Minutemen quest, some Brotherhood of Steel quest, and some railroad quest, atm it's giving me the optional task of talking to the three main factions about building the item I need.

If I choose one of the factions does that mean I lose out on the other 2 factions?

I'm asking because I want to make a save right at the point where you need to choose your faction, so that I can back and replay my choice without having to replay the entire game..

So if I choose to have one of the three factions help build the machine I need does that mean the other 2 become unavailable.

BTW I'm at the quest The Molecular Level

no end game spoilers just let me know if I can finish this quest and still have the chance to select one of those three for my end game..

I built the relay and went to the Institute. So far I still haven't finally committed to which side I'm going to take. Admittedly, it's not far away and I know exactly which mission seals my path (I've already decided which).

So in answer to your question, you can build the relay, doesn't matter who with, you can go into the Institute and you still have plenty of time to decide which side you will take. Of course, save often, just in case you do take that step of no return!

The game makes it very obvious when you hit a point of no return for a particular faction. like, really obvious, like a pop up that says "This will make you enemies with <faction>"

I haven't gotten to that point, I just didn't want to screw over one faction as I'd like to see all the enings, without having to replay the game.. as my current game is like 90+ hours,, thanks for the tip,, I'll be sure to check it out.. I wasn't sure if the optional stuff meant that I'd be screwing over my chances of still finishing up with that faction..
i have wanted to go a similar route and not actually join any faction.
so your asking this question, and the replies to it are very informative and welcome.
thank you for asking it.

Theres a point at which the game will warn you that you are reaching a point of no return on 'plot'. I've never bothered to complete the 'story'. I hate the story so much I want an option to collectively kill every breathing, skittering, flying, stalking, moaning creature in the commonwealth all at once including the main character.

So I uninstalled it.

Two quests to look out for are Mass Fusion and Tactical Thinking. Before these two quests, you can avoid making any permanent choices that lock out a faction (as long as you're not recklessly murdering faction people).

that's why god enabled us to delete save files and start from scratch while still knowing averything we learned.

Thanks to brilliant design, you can lock out faction via plot, and still make them hostile via random kills.

I already pretty much beat the game,, but jesus those bugs man.. I had to console finish numerous quest because they broke.. over 90 hours played on this last game and I had to miss out on numerous bits of the story because the friggin game was bugged up..

So annoying, guess I'll have to go watch those videos on youtube to see the story I missed because the game bugged out numerous times..
