SOLVED - Reset settlement without starting a new "career"?
So I´ve just picked up the game again after 2 years hybernation. The mods I used back then of course didn´t come with the package, so I installed new ones, of those I could remember.

On my favourit settlement, the one I had plans for, I immediatly crash straight to desktop when moving in a specifik area on that settlement (Hangman´s Alley). It´s like an area of 5X5 meters.

I originally built that settlement with Hangmans Alley Apartment and inventory ( I think it is called) but now, 2 years later, I crash wether I have that mod installed or not...

So I want to totally reset that settlement, without having to do the whole game all over again. Most threads on the internet about resetting settlements talks about "Scrap everything"-mod, but I´m not sure that´s my problem here.

Any thoughts?

.... Do you guys think the problem is related to stuff in the game such as furnitures gone bad or does it sound like conflicts between mods?

Load a save, Go to that settlement, Open console and left click the red workbench and type "scrapall" then move around and see if that fixes the crashes. Then if you want reload the same save and try scrapping just the items that may be causing issues. If it doesn't fix it then no ammount of scrapping will help. It may be something baked into the save from a previous mod that you cannot fix without some serious fiddling in a hex editor.

The problem is you are loading a save without those mods you had two years ago.

You aint gonna like it, but you are most likely best off starting a new game. Even if you somehow fix that one problem, there is no guarrantee you will not run into another problem of not having the mod later.

If you like mods this is a good practive. Put a folder on your desktop that is for FO4 Mods. In that folder create another folder for Active Mods.

Now when you want to use a mod download it manually and save it in your FO4 Mods folder. Install the mod from here and now you always have the back up of the exact mod you are using. If you want to keep it move it into the Active folder and you will always have a list of what is installed.

You can leave for 2 years without issue now, as you will always have the version you were using.

Keep in mind that those same mods may have updated versions so you will need to do some research, but this is a great start. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips guys. I´m gonna start with the tips from above and down, since they are in some kind of logic order. Perhaps if removing the stuff helps, I might not need to restart the whole shabang (fingers crossed)

Good pointer about the mods locations.

I´ll give a report later tonight.

If you were using mods from before the launch of the CK and your timeline does match BTW....Those mods ESP's would have been made with an unstable version of xedit so basically you took your chances like all other early adoptors of mods. Its since been proven it was a bad idea for long term play.

Well... I dont know how to explain this but it now works. I´ve managed to delete all the things visible, without crashing. I then uninstalled the hangman alley mod. Added F4SE (?) since I couldn´t get Place everywhere to work (duh).
I then installed another Hangman Alley mod (HA extended) and now it all seems to work.

Basicly, I have no clue how I did it and by most logic it probably shouldn´t work but hey, even a blind hen can find a corn every now and then I guess.

Thanks for the tips!
