Do water pumps let you drink and fill bottles in survival?
Is that the case? Cause I did build one and while it's all powered I can't seem to do anything with it. Is it maybe the case that just a specific pump lets you do that? The game doesn't really explain you anything :\

You can fill empty bottles at a hand pump for clean drinking water, or a lake or pond that is dirty water for cooking recipes or also cook to purify.

damn, that sucks, so that's the only pump that works to do that, materials wasted then :\

Carry some extra clean water with you and use it for healing, save the stimpacks for reviving your companion.

yea i'm already doing that, tough it's getting annoying to go back to vault111 to fill these bottles

Water purifiers regularly produce purified water and store it in the workshop up to a cap, so that's not wasted at all

I wasn't sure bottles could fill at a fountain.
You need a few places around the map to build water pumps. Hand pumps to drink from, and powered purifiers store clean water in the workbench. Even if you don't do the Minutemen settlements quests.

The hand operated water pumps in Survival work the same as the water fountains in your start point in Vault 111. You can drink (Purified) waterfrom them directly, or use them to fill any empty bottles you are carrying, turning those empty bottles into Purified Water items in your personal inventory.

Water purifiers are distinct from hand operated water pumps. Water purifiers require a water source, electrical power and more components. They will fill the Workshop (settlement inventory) with bottled Purified Water which can be removed from the Workshop and carried. Or it can be used remotely in recipies via supply lines between settlements. You cannot drink directly from a Water Purifier, and you cannot use it to fill an empty bottle.

Hand operated water pumps will also deposit bottled Purified Water into the Workshop inventory, again as as long as total water production in the settlement is greater than total water demand. Like purifiers they can also meet the water needs of other settlements when the settlements are connected by supply lines.

You would expect that hand operated Water Pumps produce Dirty Water, and Water Purifiers produce Purified Water. But no. Both types produce Purified Water, for basically no good reason.

The water pump you built in Sanctuary will function exactly the same as the water fountains (and sinks) in Vault 111. Unless what you built in Sanctuary Hills was a water purifier, not a water pump.

I agree this is badly explained in the game.

short and full answer: yes.

All settlement water sources are considered as purified and bottles can be refilled at any source.

Only thing that blows my mind is that main character seems to eat the bottle during the process of drinking - instead leave you empty one. On other hand once you stabilize water production at settlement you will get surplus in terms of purified water autoamtically to your workbench storage in time. Tbh, at beginning food and water can look bit challanging but with settlement building you cna quickly feed whole wasteland with tons of everything.. I would like resources more scarced overall..

Pretty sure you can't fill a bottle (or drink) at a Purifier, only at a Pump.

And I agree the exploding bottles are stupid, and everything should be more scarce. Particularly in Survival.

yea, right.. Dont you knwo any good survival mod? Looking on FROST atm, btu it seems unfinished and abandoned..

There is a small mod, Dirty Water Pumps. Forces you to build Water Purifiers to get Purified Water.

There are also a few mods to make bottles re-usable.

Immersive Gameplay is a really good hardcore survival and realism mod.

Seems good. Just hope "one-thiting cocroaches" thing dont make survival game too frustrating:-) (combat wise I am fine with vanilla survival dififculty) But sure I will give it a try.
