The 'town' of Salem

And my absolute disappointment with it.

So after all these years and so many playthroughs in total between console and PC, I decided on a 'gunslinger' run to explore every bit of the commonwealth up north first. I never explored the area before because I'm normally focused on side-quests, main missions and exploring the ruins of Boston before anywhere else. Here, I wanted a different change of pace.

When I discovered Salem and Rook Family House, I was excited as it was the first time I've experienced the encounter with Barney. To make it short, Barney was once part of a community militia in Salem that was over-ran with Mirelurks from lack of training. Barney, being the only survivor, asks you to reactivate the turrets in the town in reward for Reba II.

After activating the town's defenses and rushing back to inform Barney, I get my reward, and then all interactions with the NPCs quickly cease. I couldn't talk to him again. There is no workbench in Salem for you to use so you can rebuild the town into a settlement again.

The only reason to reactivate those 5 turrets in a dead town was because some crazy old guy was willing to give you a mediocre legendary for it.

There's no dialogue option to ask if Barney wanted to rebuild the town. No workbench for you to do it yourself. No other quest that allows you to retake Salem. Just had to ♥♥♥♥ing stand there in the middle of town with 5 active turrets defending nothing.

I can not believe they set it up where it seemed like you could have a new settlement with a unique NPC, only to be disappointed by the fact that all that trouble you went through to reactive the town's defenses was for a quest reward.



If you know of a decent mod for Salem, that isn't too buggy or breaks aspects of the game, where you can have a settlement there, I'd like to know.

There are couple mods able Settlement with Salem at Nexus.

I never find the guy in Salem alive. Hes always dead for some reason. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
