Fallout 4 Script Extender
What is this needed for? Everytime I start my game with it, it crashes less than a minute into gameplay. When I remove is, the game runs normally. The website says it is compatible with my version 1.10.138

It is needed for certain mods.

Those are the commonly used mods that require it.

It's for mods that edit or add(?) scripts in the game. Normally, mods can't edit or add scripts in the game, and the same is true for pretty much any modern bethesda game (I think it has to do with the engine they all use) - Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 and New Vegas. So the script extender is necessary to allow them to do so. Certain types of mods would simply not be able to exist/work without the script extender.

You don't really need it unless you're modding your game, although there shouldn't be any reason why it's crashing the game for you unless you've not installed it properly or your game version doesn't match the F4SE version.

I dont think I installed it incorrectly unless Im missing something. Copied the Data folder contents to the Fallout 4 Data folder and copied f4se_1_10_138.dll, f4se_loader.exe, and f4se_steam_loader.dll to the directory where my Fallout4.exe is located. Then I ran the f4se loader as Admin.

That's weird F4SE usually never causes crashes. Maybe if you run it using Mod Organizer 2 it will work better.

Don't run it as admin, for one.
Second, how about the /src/ folder ?

This thread is loaded with bad information I would not rely on anything said here

lol

If what I said is inaccurate, feel free to enlighten me instead of just saying "lol" which contributes nothing. I put a question mark in there because I was unsure on the exact wording to use.

There are many mods (e.g. the unofficial patch, that fixes many vanilla script bugs) that change the games scripts that do not require any script extender, because you know the CK comes with a script compiler. of the main things the script extender family of dlls do is allow you to call game engine subroutines from your script the otherwise would not be available from a script

any mod that has pex files is adding or changing scripts in the game

what you said was just wrong there is no other way to put it

Great. You could have just said that to begin with.

OP, check to see if you have more than one version of the script extender in your folder. It will ctd if you don't remove older files when you update it. And it normally doesn't remove the previous versions (at least for me). Simply put, you can not have more than one version of the script extender running at the same time.

Place Everywhere is what I meant.

Thought for sure Scrap Everything used to use it? I thought they both used it in order to separate the scraping stuff. I just pick Scrap Everything because it is more popular. I stopped using Scrap Everything about a year ago.

I guess I could be thinking back to the old days before the Creation kit?

Script Extender for Fallout 4 is different. It is actually only used for very few mods these days. The older games did rely on it more. Which is also why I named the three most popular/common mods that use F4SE.

Sim Settlements Conquest one of the largest revision mods you can use totally rewrites some of the scripting and is able to add many quests without requiring the F4SE (although it has better features if you do use the F4SE.)

Also in the computer world, Skyrim, Fallout:New Vegas are NOT modern Bethesda games. Games that over ten years old are NOT modern. If you even bring up the fact they use the same engine brahminshit then I am going to cram your foot down your throat.

Maybe "modern" wasn't the right word, but they are the most recent bethesda games and FO4, Skyrim, and NV in particular have very large modding communities which are mostly still alive today.
